Enter The Matrix Q&A

HomeLAN Fed's Q&A with Shiny's David Perry is online. Perry is of course asked about his company's Enter the Matrix game, which will ship next week to be in stores on the same day as the Matrix Reloaded movie opens.

The project is all about the Wachowskis’ vision, and I can’t say enough about how great it was to work with them and the kind of talent that they assembled. The kind of collaboration they envisioned and created, the attention to detail that they have demanded, all makes me think that they have completely rewritten the book when it comes to how Hollywood will be interacting with the gaming industry. There are just oceans of talent in Hollywood, and games really haven’t tapped into that until now. From here on out, everyone’s going to do it this way. -- David Perry, Shiny, in this interview.

If you have a design team that sees games as a glorified form of movies, it's time to start polishing your resume, because your chances of building a great AI are basically zero. For me, nothing kills a game faster than feeling like I'm playing through someone else's script, and every choice I make amounts to guessing what the designer expected me to do. -- Paul Tozour, ION Storm, in a PC Gamer interview

That's what i loved about Deus Ex. THe game didn't feel like a huge script. After a lot of events and happenings it left me with the feeling of "yep, i did that."

I felt the same way about Deus Ex up to a point. I really felt like I was able to make my own decisions in this world right up until you help Paul recover the evidence against UNATCO. Then the game went on rails as you were forced to join sides with Paul, forced to kill Navarre, etc. The three endings at the end only depended on the choices you made in the very last level. I loved the game, played through it 3 times, and I'm buying DX2, I just hope they do better with this situation next time.
