PlanetSide Screenshots
by Maarten Goldstein, May 06, 2003 11:11am PDTThere's a new PlanetSide Q&A on Computer & Video Games with producer Dave Georgeson. There's not really a whole bunch of new info in there but it's a good starting point if you don't know a whole lot about Sony's massively multiplayer sci-fi shooter. We have a bunch of new PlanetSide screenshots here locally as well.

Didn't the early screenshots of Planetside look awesome? Have they scaled down the graphics on purpose?

- big ass battles
- ability to form a squad of ppl or friends with different classes(hacker, sniper, pilot, solider, etc,) and go out and accomplish a battle task. A well formed squad with the right balance and proper teamwork will slaughter a crappily put to gether squad.
- slower action so you can talk about strategies during the battle, give commands, etc
- i'll mention this again. Ability to find and play with friends and not get lost in the complete chaos of other games like BF1942
Things this game has going against it:
- graphics are "meh"
- vehicle feel suckass compared to BF1942 (helicopter *fap* *fap* *fap*)
- action not as intense as bf1942
- have to pay per month
- laggier than a bf1942 battle
- mouse sensitivites are capped
- many weapons have a cone of fire, not very accurate
- the landscape has too many freaking trees and plants and rocks so tanks get totally owned
- can change "class" basically only once per 24 hours (respec points)
- Tribes 2 flashbacks of pain (all the menus and colors look totally ripped from Tribes2)
