Shack Quake3 Q&A

Well, it looks like I've gotten the go-ahead to post this Q&A on Quake3 giving out as many more details on Quake3 as you guys could come up with questions. This is probably one of the last bits of online Quake3 information you guys will be seeing for a bit as they are in pretty serious crunch mode at id trying to finish the game. Make sure and check out those new shots that came out yesterday as well, and someone remind me to update the screenshot archive. :)

  • No CTF in the demo? Gay. Chalk that up as something UT has over Q3.

The grenade launcher is good? I\'ll be interested to see this, the one in Q3test feels just as bad as the Q2 one.

No PL indication? WTF is wrong with id?

No customised weapon autoswitching? Bad. Another good thing that UT does which Q3 doesn\'t.

Lag simulation is an awesome addition!

    No back packs? Sucks.

Footsteps not a server setting? Fucking ridiculous.

Add air control goddamn it!! The current physics suck ass.

Oh, and after having a rail slut hand me a 61 to -10 defeat on a Q3test2 yesterday, I\'ve come to the conclusion Q3test2 should never, ever be used for one-on-one.

  • #147 yea so i forgot what they\'re called, so what. not like i\'m a pro or anything (=

#148 many good points. doing it the way i do it just saves me some work. i\'m lazy, what can i say Þ8

ie5 helps me cuz i can just use css and add my font, color, size, etc. to the <font> tag and i wont have to set it up for each one. netscape let me do that a little, but didnt take everything that ie5 did. so i\'d sometimes have to add extra html to <font> which i hated doing. i guess it\'s just lazyness, but that\'s why i like it (=
although i do miss some of netscape\'s features, and there\'s many more that i hate (like going to a site and being hit with many script errors, which i heard was taken care of tho, i wouldnt know cuz its been a while since i\'ve seen netscape)
oh, and i meant sites not looking as good with netscape as they do in ie5 as in the dhtml and the hover links. netscape don\'t do hover yet. want an example ? check www.clannails.com in netscape and then ie5. lemme know if you notice a difference (then again the site WAS built for ie4, so bad example ?)

wasnt blaming netscape on my mistake, i didnt think of it as a mistake. i never put a </table> tag in my html, and i didnt realize that that was the reason it wasnt working in netscape. actually i never close tags unless i see that it messes up the rest of the site.
how do you know if i make sites or not ? you havent seen anything i\'ve done. and i really dont give a fuck how many visitors i lose by not making my site work with netscape, i refuse to download that browser and see if my site works with it. i dont have the time to learn every last bit of html or to tweak my site enough so it looks almost as good with netscape as it does with ie. i just don\'t like netscape, maybe if netscape 5 is ever finished and it\'s close to half way as good as ie5 is, then i\'ll use it, but that\'s not looking very likely

  • hmm .. ie vs netscape
every try making web sites ? netscape sucks for it. ie makes everything easier than with netscape. a lot of the css don\'t work in netscape, saves me lotsa time when i use it designing for ie5. when i was designing a site for my school i had to make the site compatible with both browsers, spent a long time trying to figure out why the site wasnt working with netscape but worked perfectly with ie5. then i realized that it was cuz i didn\'t put </table>, so it didnt show up in netscape at all. now i dont give a fuck about netscape, could care less if my site works on netscape or not

Roflmao, I hope your kidding dude.
You couldnt find the option to disable the startup sound in Win9x so you started using Linux ? Dude, at least Windows has something resembling a consistent user interface. There are ton of easy to use resources that\'ll help you if you get stuck, and you dont have to search through a boatload of newsgroup postings to find info on seemingly trivial stuff as how to get your cable modem working. I\'ll start using Linux as a desktop OS when it gets a consistent UI, and some decent support. I dont have time to be l33t and spend eons learning how to use poorly laidout and poorly documented (if at all) software. I\'ve tried Redhat5.0,6.0 and Slackware, its the same story. BeOS is MUCH nicer as a desktop OS, and i\'d be using it if it supported more than 6 network cards :(

Of course it would be a totally different story if i was running a server.
