BF1942 Secret Weapons Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, May 01, 2003 7:11am PDTHomeLAN Fed has posted a Q&A with Mikael Rudberg, producer at Digital Illusions. Mikael is asked about the newest Battlefield 1942 expansion pack Secret Weapons. It is mentioned that mod tools for Battlefield 1942 won't be released until near the end of the year, which is pretty dissapointing.

Seeing what total pricks the DICE people are makes me appreciate companies like iD software a lot more. I thought some really great things would be coming out of the bf1942 community, but sadly I can see the community will die before it's given a chance to breathe. Maybe at end of the year when real game engines like HL2 and/or doom3 come out. where the game controls aren't weak, the interface isn't glitchy, the customer's needs are understood and of importance to the company.
I can't wait to see the sales of secret weapon. I was one of the first ones to go out and buy RtR, that shit 20 dollar mappack with a few extra vehicles.
I kind of have a personal life, so I can only invest my time in one game at a time, and as of right now I haven't played bf1942 in about 2 weeks. There aren't any worthwhile mods out really. DC is very immature, and by the looks of things it's going to be too late. I'm bored by war games anyways. I wanna shoot a cacodemon >:)

The similarities between this and free mods are now getting creepy... :\

See, it's not that hard to make and even balance a bunch of new vehicles and weapons. By the time the next expansion pack is out, the mod community will be a generation past where they are now. This pack is coming one way or anothing, but I can only hope that the mod community keeps EA and DICE on their toes so we don't get another glorified map pack like RTR.
To see them milking more expansion packs rather than fixing such a simple yet important thing like the chat lag is a great irritation. EA is at the helm of this ship, so we've got to blame them first unless told otherwise.
Here is hoping that they release the damn tools though. =/
