GTA Vice City PC Impressions
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 26, 2003 8:57am PDTOver at PC.IGN are some hands-on impressions of the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City PC port. The article doesn't really tell you much about the game itself, not like you didn't know already, but goes into detail about how well the port is holding up.
Carmageddon ploughing into GOG
Harry Potter for Kinect announced
Mad Riders trailer goes heavy on the meta
Anarchy Reigns finished, delayed by Sega anyway

What blew me away most is the soundtrack of the game. 7 already classic stations to tune into with funky 80's vibes. WildStyle (old school hiphop/electro), Fever 105 (funky soul and disco), WAVE (electronic like Tears for Fears). FLASH FM ('the' 80's channel, classic hits), ESPANTOSO (Jazz mixed with hispanic beats) V-ROCK (I wanna rock!) and finally EMOTION (seriously emotional 80's love songs like Mr. Mister - Broken Wings etc)
As mentioned the gameplay and story is awesome. The atmosphere is very cool, too! I love the comments you get from bypassers in the street and when robbing someones car.
Btw, rockstar has released a 7 cd set with the music from the game. (catch me in #kuroi or #formula1 on quakenet for details)

Do yourself a favour and get yourselves a psx -> pc usb adaptor (sold a lot on ebay.com) - it's much more fun with a real controller (ok besides the aiming but there's the target button for that) - also I don't tihnk I could drive without the ps2 controller now ( and yes I do realise it's well coded k/b driving control - some games have it (CMRally 1, GTA3) and others don't...) but still these analog throttle buttons o nthe ps2 make a lot of difference.
Some cool shit I just did
little remote control air plane race
flat tyres on cars.
cool jumps
motorbikes DO rock.
Lots more "bitches"
Stole a car and this little kid (passenger) was too scared to get out so I gave them a scare ride :)
went inside a random building and saw quite a bit of detail in there considering.
etc
wicked game, I'd estimate at least 3 cd's for the pc for all that "stuff"
oh - one weapon rocks too... lets just say you got to use one in doom ;) - the mall rocks going inside, stealing a car and driving around the mall
did i mention motorbikes rocked? i drove them around and stuff and like up stairs and shit.

"Still, it ran smooth as could be in 1920x1440 on Rockstar's demo PC. Even in the air with virtually unlimited draw distance, things stayed pretty stable." - Pretty stable? Sorta? Kinda? Possibly stable? Does that sentence even tell us anything?
Aside from IGN's C-grade writers, Vice City PC doesn't add any new features from GTA3 PC! 30 second replays; can only save 1 replay at a time; character skins, no sdk; mp3 radio stations;
Oh, and finally: "After the swimming thing, there's just one other uncomfortable topic. I discreetly raise the topic: 'You guys should totally do multiplayer.' I know what comes next. They just don't want to do the same old thing and they definitely don't want to incorporate a new idea until they make sure it's solid. Rather than just throw something in to sell a few copies, Rockstar's challenging themselves to design a multiplayer experience that's as solid as the single player game." - Wow. That sounds almost verbatim what they said last year. IGN gets the story!
