The guys at the Firing Squad have posted a Q&A with Epic's Tim Sweeney, asking him about 64-bit technology and AMD's Opteron. Epic is pretty hot for 64-bit CPUs.

Tim seems to say quite different stuff to Carmack, although I suspect that for most gamers 64-bit won't mean shit, but the other improvements that come with the 64-bit CPUs will make them worth it all the same.

Nice read, though by the sounds of it mod makers are going to be required to make some pretty big investments in 64bit tech in the years to come (though I imagine by the time the next gen unreal tech is out and about, 64bit cpus will be available at current XP1800 prices and above)

Having said that, as with all gamers that lack any kind of knowledge to make their own mind up as to how good the 64bit athlon stuff really is, I await the carmacks plan update.
