Operation Flashpoint 2 Confirmed
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 16, 2003 6:27am PDTCodemasters today confirmed that Operation Flashpoint 2 is in development, again at Bohemia Interactive. The title will be released late 2004, the setting and theme for the game will be revealed at E3 (next month in Los Angeles).
Marek Spanel, Operation Flashpoint's Project Leader at Bohemia Interactive Studio says: "We have great plans and massive ambition for Operation Flashpoint 2 but, for the moment, we are not revealing specific details of its content and gameplay. Following the success of the original game, it's great to be working with Codemasters on the sequel and we are confident it'll become another major landmark in PC gaming."Update: How they found it I don't know, but French site Tactical Squad has posted the original picture used as the header image on Codemasters' Operation Flashpoint 2 site, possibly indicating the game's setting will be the Vietnam war.

OFP is my second favorite PC game of all time and when I play online coop with friends, we play like actual soldiers. No crosshair, and disabled 3rd person view.
REALISM, BABY. We get immersed in OFP. No other military game stands a chance.. and don't even mention BF1942; that's an arcade game.

I hope that Flashpoint 2 has a more intricate/fleshed out tank simulation. Steel Beasts has spoiled me so badly :(
Also, the player movement code, while bearable at first, felt very unnatural over time...especially indoors (where the glaring problem of your wonky FOV became a major problem...it felt like you were running through the house zoomed in and it was almost impossible not to get disorientated.
I doubt they'll make the tank more complicated, but I still hope they fix the movement problems and make the indoor sections less ass-like. If they do that, I'd be very impressed.

I'm going to start praying to the god of deformable terrain nightly. Maybe even in the mornings, too.
This game was immense fun in co-op........ it's just ....... wow it was good.
I hope the sequel has an idiot-proof demo

Shows what a well motivated group of publishers can do.
Wonder how much of Behemia's experience in creating Full Spectrum Command will be used in the sequel..? Let's hope it's plenty.
