NVidia & EA Team Up

Ah yes this is a deal I'm sure you will all be excited to see. As we all know PC gamers prefer to have their choices limited and the folks at NVidia and EA are trying to do their part to make sure that happens more often. Just have a look see:

Under the terms of the deal, Nvidia hardware will become the "preferred" graphics platform for Electronic Arts's video game studios, and video games developed by Electronic Arts may offer features designed to work on Nvidia hardware.

As to what defines "preferred" has yet to be revealed. Thanks HardOCP

The number of posts that bash EA crack me up. I especially like the ones where people hope for the demise of EA. Do you guys realize what it would take for that company to truly fail? It would pretty much require a total crash of the entire video game industry. EA is THE largest video game publisher IN THE WORLD. I believe I read somewhere that 1 in ever 4 games sold is somehow affiliated with EA.
I'm not saying that it's the greatest company in the world, but considering where they are now, they had to do SOMETHING right to get there.

It's just a matter of time when all CPUs will be Intel, all GPUs will be Nvidia, and Microsoft and EA merge into a super cooperation and be the only software to run on the processors.

It seems to me that Nvidia is becoming more and more a money-hungry corporation, instead of a "geeky tech-shop" (which it used to be). Luckily ATI has realised the errors of their ways and are now becoming just that.

Good thing a lot of people are fed up with "EA ways of dealing with customers" and the number who will actually care about what EA has to say in any matter is slowly declining. Sigh, dear nvidia where did you lose your common sense? What happened to your gaming market dominance? That's what you get for teaming up with Microsoft, they make the money and you are sucked dry and you will wither away. Today second fastest, tomorrow 3rd, then soon Trident 8900 will be faster than you. Sad, very sad. :)

Boo. This sucks. I actually like some EA games so this is stupidity for EA. If their shit doesn't work well on people's Radeons, then they just lost a bunch of sales, and a bunch of negative reputation/image to go along with it. And as for Nvidia, well they already have an image of playing dirty, so this just amplifies that.

You all are whacked.

Look, this is NOT the first time this happened. It WON'T be the last. Software publishers cannot fully support the whizbang features of ALL different cards, so they usually end up only writing to the lowest common denominator. This gives me hope that advanced features will finally start being utilized, and if it's only on NVidia cards, then I'll get one of those. There's NO WAY NVidia is paying EA enough to make games look and run like crap on ATIs! That's foolish!! What will happen is that they will make games that, as always, are targeted to the lowest common denominator, then add direct support for certain NVidia features. For ATI users, it's business as usual. For NVidia owners, there'll be some extra performance and eye candy. It's not like EA will DE-TUNE their games so they run like crap, come on think about it folks.

These deals seem sweet for the Graphics card manufacturer's. However do they really help the game manufacturer's though? If you have a game that is coming out and it's "optimized" for a particular graphics card line, and that line is not popular, you risk losing potential customers based solely on the fact that you have that "disclaimer" on there. I doubt you gain]g any points with the market you claim to support.

This is the same thing 3dfx did. When they realized that they were falling behind in actual product features, they decided to try to move their "brand" instead. However, consumers are much smarter than that, and will change graphics cards at the drop of a hat. nVidia, like 3dfx, is underestimating their audience and is now grasping at straws. The only thing that will make a graphics hardware company win is superior hardware and timely execution. Over the years, nVidia (like 3dfx) started naming everything the same under the notion that brand loyalty would bring them through the rough patches. Wrong.

I really doubt this will impact EA Games to a large degree, with the exception of a big nVidia logo at startup. If anything, this'll just be some more cash for EA, a couple "we used this and that shader here," and nothing more.

Sucks to be a graphics card company. No love. One mistake and you're out.
