Doom 3 is not expected out until the fall.
Carmack will demo a much more advanced version of Doom 3 at this year's
Quakecon, than that of what was seen at last years E3.
Carmack states that real-time rendering will be so dynamic that animators
will be able to produce films using game engines. Much like Fountainhead
Entertainment's T.V. Series Sidrial, which uses a heavily modified Quake 3
engine.
An example of a scare tactic is given as you are creeping past a room with
a zombie chowing down on some scientist brains, an Imp crashing through the
grated floor below and starting to launch fireballs.
There's talk about real-time lighting algorithms to render, shadow casting
on a monsters skin and even a fluorescent light reflecting off the teeth of
the chain saw.
Mention was made of Carmack creating an algorithm to reduce a 500,000
polygon character down to 2,000 polygons for the Level of Detail setting
when the same character is viewed at a distance.
Carmack says, Doom 3 won't be his last game engine, but don't expect a new
engine every few years like before.
There you have it.

I wonder why the change of venue? Does the Adams Mark have more space (and hopefully, parking?)

Also, I think it's probably a little too early to be showing off Quake 4. I suspect very highly that they won't do that until after Doom 3 has shipped.

Now there was about a 2-3 month lag between Quake 3’s tech demo release and it actually hitting the shelves… and what comes 3 months after August, when Quakecon is being held? November. Hmm.
<hopefulSpeculation> So what I’m thinking that the coolest thing in the world that id could do is to release the tech demo for Doom 3 AT Quakecon, make it an exclusive release at the convention, which would of course make Quakecon THE LAN party to go to this year. It would be a huge boost for Quakecon, and it wouldn’t really be dissing the community at large, cause it would only mean a 2-3 day delay getting out to the general internet. Probably less than that as someone would undoubtedly burn that sukka to CD and take it home and upload it. Anyway, since I plan on being at Quakecon, I hope they do something like this. :) </hopefulSpeculation>
