On DOOM 3

HomeLAN Fed has posted some info found in a Wired print article about DOOM 3. Among the things mentioned in the article is that Microsoft has been offering a lot of money to id Software to make an exclusive DOOM 3 Xbox port. There will also be a single player mission pack in addition to a multiplayer addon. And lastly, there is a possibility there will be a program to create unique DOOM 3 levels on the fly. New screenshots are included with the article (the magazine article that is obviously).

  • I'm fighting making some very harsh comments here.........

    I doubt Carmack would allow this to happen the guy isn't a total sellout he cares about gamers to some extent... cept he only cares about graphics..... (my opinion)

    but hey we won't get into that one :)
    (I've got a bet running with a friend Doom 3 will have issues*- I picked a small simple 20$ figure)

    * issues.
    as defined by myself to said friend issues in my opinion and clearly understood by said friend is basically along the lines of the following.

    Doom 3 doesn't live up to the hype.

    Several gamers on boards (such as this one) post dismay with the game / frustration / general unhappyness with the quality - rather than (as is NOW) people all calling this person crazy - it's more of a 50/50 mix of people hating it and some people responding with totally right - it will cause heated discussions rather than 1 or 2 naysayers it will be 50/50 (perhaps 60/40) but nothing like the current id fanboyism as seen previously.

    Another point to my definition of "issue" is at least one to two "higher end" web sites make make comments in the general news (such as Maarten throwing in opinion recently of "those who still playstarcraft( joke ) " and so on) - I'd say someone like Kyle from Hard OCP will make a comment in one of his simple news articles "this new fan on this cooler sucks nearly as much as Doom 3" - that kind of thing. (hard to explain what I'm getting at, but I feel that several larger web sites will make comments against the game just to get their opinion across)

    The game will sell alot, I won't dispute that.

    The game will have fantastic graphics and may be scary.

    Many original Doom fans may be upset with it - but not all

    (as you can see I had trouble defining "issues" to my friend, but in the long run it's not going to be a 9/10 game or an 8.5 / 10 game or a "omg" game - it won't be a half life, and it won't be a nolf, nor will it be a "doom 1" - it will be a mid size blip in the Kingpin -> Sin size at most)

    Sorry for the lose descriptions - these comments are my opinion only - please don't get angry.

    P.S I hope I lose the bet, but my instinct tells me otherwise.

  • For all you people griping about how the game is going to cost 60$ and how Hollenshead isnt doing his part to keep costs down, and for those who are mad that it may be an XBox console exclusive, shut up. Everyone knows that Doom 3 will make a vast majority of its money on the engine licensing, and yet Carmack and team still promise to give us a grade A game first, and not to spend lots of extra time putting in features that the game wont need. Carmack is the reason we have 3d games and he really is the gamers friend, hes not in it for money. So all you people bashing them, thats ridiculous. If you want to rag a company rag Blizzard, for charging 40$ on an expansion
