Jedi Knight 3 Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 02, 2003 8:17am PSTGames Domain is the first site to post a Jedi Knight 3 interview, asking Activision producer Graham Fuchs and Raven's Jon Zuk & Steve Raffel about the new Jedi Knight game. Questions are about the absence of Kyle Katarn, the game's non-linear structure, engine enhancements, enemies, force powers and plenty of other things. Non-scanned screenshots are included as well.
GD: This is the first in the series that doesn't feature Kyle Katarn as the lead character. So what can you tell us on the basic storyline? GF: You can create your own character who is a student at the Jedi Academy training to become a Jedi Knight, so you're going to work with Kyle and Luke. As you saw in Episode 1, the Jedi train by going out in the field, with more experienced Jedi, and working various missions. That's the loose structure of what the player is going to be doing. All these missions form a larger story that will flow through the entire game.

Of course, I'm posting this after effectively shelving Hexen because I saw the room with 50,000 medieval crates, so I'm a little biased. Scarred, but biased.
Why aren't you using the DoomIII engine for this
Answer
Because we are using the DoomIII engine for Quake4 due out in 2004, we will most likely use the doomIII engine after this.
Pretty much why they are still using the quake3 engine.

i was more than a little dissapointed in ravens inability to do this for the last jedi knight sequel, and judging by the sound of things they are going even further into ignoring the competitive scene.
however if by some chance raven sees this post and wonders what i could mean by a competitive scene please email me at dsbrlogan@wideopenwest.com

The idea of a saber duel in the dark with real time lighting and shadows flying all over the place as the fight commences just makes me yearn.
