Duke Nukem 3D Source Code
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 01, 2003 7:19am PSTNo that headline is not an April fools joke. 3D Realms has actually released the full source code to Duke Nukem 3D, and you can download it from FileShack. OpenGL, TCP/IP support anyone? The file is a 3.83mb download, and instructions on how to compile it are included. But what about Duke Nukem Forever? Some shocking news here ;)
Mad Riders trailer goes heavy on the meta
Anarchy Reigns finished, delayed by Sega anyway
Jet Set Radio making its way to Vita
Diablo 3 patch coming next week
Elder Scrolls Online plans to sort out bugs with long beta

Now that I think of it, Duke3D didn't have the 35 frames per second limit that the DOOM engine had; just went as fast as it could.

3DR 0wns 'cause it's a bitch to find good older games sometimes, it rocks that they still make them available.

Duke3D version 1.5 still runs under XP. Choose "General Midi" for music, and 640x480 VESA.
I set the sound to disabled. The various Sound Blaster ones "work", but the sound is laggy/stuttery. Thats with nForce chipset. I tried several different ones like Sound Blaster, SB Pro old / new 2.0, etc.
I wish I could code. :(
It's more of an art or something some people are more apt to learn, then something that just anyone can do.. Takes a certain mindset.
Seems teh 3Drealms site is teh Shackdotted?!?! >:(
Hopefully they don't have the same bandwidth Valve does (a la Steam 2 beta)...

OpenGL 1.4 / 2.0 - OpenAL or other?
IPv6?
How "hard" would it be to just take the current source and make it a win32 app?

In the mean time, check out this Duke3D launcher app called "DukeRoch":

Scroll down a bit for it.
Also, scroll down and chek out the screenshots for a map called "Roch6". Pretty nice looking...

Then of course Valve will come along and give us mad bling bling to turn it into a commercial product
And thanks in advance to the person/people who make something of this source and allow me to play this game again on my current hardware. Duke3D itself just bombs out when I get to the first teleporter (the sewer below the building you blow up in Episode 1, Level 2 with the SectorEffector for teleport)
