    well....

"You must have a minimum of two years industry experience to apply for this position, regardless of skill level"

    Then later in job post...

"Digitalo evaluates potential employees based on skill and skill alone"

And IF the first is true they will have cut themselves very short on potential talent
I personally wont be applying just because of the way they posted and their apparent attitude.

"however we do not hire whiners, complainers, political agitators, non-team players, unreliables, unaccountables, or curmudgeons. In brief (in other words, if your to stupid to know what I just said), people with bad attitudes need not apply."

Well it sounds like you will be kept in line no matter what you think or feel. Our way or the highway "whiners, complainers"? what kind of ego trip is that, why would you post that? you think someone will read the posting and go, "well I complain alot and like to whine, hmm I guess I wont apply" STAY IN LINE SOLDIER!!!

Doesnt sound like the place I want to work O and you have to be a US Citizen anyway. Talk about shrinking your own prospects

Besides I'm having better luck with major companies and they dont have a problem with not having years in a game studio already and being from another country.

You see more professional companies wouldnt put restrictions on finding the perfect guy/gal? for the job. They just dont want to have to deal with a little training and getting a work permit for the out of towners.

    Say what you must

If they were hiring a network guy, I'd apply in a heartbeat. I've seen their email communications, their message board interaction (over at Blues, here, and on their own website.)

I was also in the Devastation beta, and without breaking any agreement I signed, I hope I can say that their dev team was really great to give feedback too, and when you not only get responses from developers as if they care, but you also hop on the server with the developers at all hours of the night, it shows you that they're gamers first, game MAKERS second.

Sounds exactly like the place I'd wanna work. Hey guys, if ya need anyone with minor coding experience, and knows quite a bit about LAN/WAN networking, shoot me a shackmessage. Oh, and I'm recently nationalized, no red tape!

      Hey Buckshack,
In response to your comment, our core team consists of several International employees and we just can't hire anymore, so it's not like we don't understand the value of the global workforce per se. The whiners and complainers line is our way of being funny. If you were in the industry you'd understand the joke, it's a common line that describes most "green developers" which, in essence is what we all at Digitalo were until we got this project out ;) I wonder if we really did come off sounding arrogant in this however. Has anyone else been turned off by this?

Thanks for the response Vic, Thats the way I saw it, but it can be hard to know what people really meant.
It ticked me off at the time and I spoke my mind, but its possible I jumped the gun as well. I have been fighting a bad Flu (not SARS) and my moods are outa wack, It did come across like that to me but I might have gone overboard on it.

It is generally better to list what you like rather than what you don't want. The latter makes it sound like you have had problems with employees in the past, and often can turn people off. Even people who are whiners generally don't consider themselves whiners, so if you don't want a whiner, ask for "people who contribute a positive attitude, offer solutions to problems, constructive criticism, and can voice their concerns professionally in a team oriented environment" or something like that.

I'd nix that whole statement...it just doesn't read well as a joke. Nobody evaluates on skill alone. I know a few people in the industry that are remarkably skilled, but total jerks and unpersonable, and no one wants them in their studios. In my opinion, studios are like sports teams...you can win with egos, but chemistry usually works much better.
