Another BF1942 Expansion?
by Steve Gibson, Mar 23, 2003 12:08pm PSTIf you just cant get enough Battlefield 1942, it looks like there is another expansion pack in the works according to a recent Electronic Arts release schedule over in New Zealand. Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons.
The latest New Zealand release schedule from Electronic Arts lists a new expansion pack for Battlefield 1942 due for release this September. The title of the pack is Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons. Other than the name and that it will have an R.R.P of $49.95, there are no other details. We'll keep you updated. Thanks Eric, Mike, Blues, and of course the originator of the story, Gameplanet. Oh, that $49.95 price translates to just under $30 US currency.

But they should fix their problems before they try and milk this anymore. The current patches still have Crash to Desktop problems, they still have sound problems and they still have shoddy network code.
When you have the CTD problem, it makes the game virtually unplayable. This isn't milking, its a rip off. EA/DICE should fire the entire QA team who let this through - especially considering patch 1.31 still has the problem.

I need to comment on this cause I've been out of the loop for a while.......
I beleive the team responsible for this game are raping it - purely raping and destroying it.
The half life / CS model has shown us the supporting the product for free equals $$ in the long run.
I want BF1942 not only to be a good game which it is, I want it to last and I want it to be popular, but with these addon packs and costing $$ you are finding people who don't want to purchase the addon pack (can't say I blame them)
If they simply release this stuff for free and BF1942 gets more and more popular it stands a longer and better chance of surviving and hell fella's that might even mean beating that POS CS off of the top rung one day (in *MY* opinion bf1942 blows cs completely out of the water)
None the less they continue to milk the consumer and segregate (right word?) the userbase of those with addon and those without - and now again with "addon and addon or without"..............
very very very silly move....... this game has so so so much potential and i feel they are too busy trying to milk$ it that they aren't seeing the bigger picture
:(

scientist southpark spoof:
secret weapons...rtcw...zombies...himmler...ww2...indiana jones...harrison ford...oscars...peter o toole...lawerence of arabia...arabs...desert combat..
. BF1942: Road to Rome
. BF1942: Secret Weapons
List of BF mods I'll surely play a lot, and I check daily their progress:
. Desert Combat (already worth two times the size of a "expansion pack" itself to EA/DICE standards, sans maps that are still being developed thanks to their inability to release a map editor). Set in the Gulf War/modern world.
. SW Battlefield (Galactic Conquest). Set on the Star Wars world. AT-AT woohoo
. Empires MOD, even though it looks like CC Renegade (no ofense, I loved CC Renegade despite its problems). Set in a fictious future
. Eve of Destruction. Vietnam-based.
. The Wastelands mod. Too bad it looks like it doesn't have much future, not many updates... it would be nice. Mad max-based, even though it looks like they wouldn't admit it verbally.
. Pimp wars. Who knows, it might be fun, if it's like the gang-wars (or something) which was made for HL, with the leader stuff.
. Eternal Silence. Original "space future sci-fi" mod, might be cool, they're doing well, developing lotsa stuff.
. That one that is starcraft-based, it's "Space Combat" or some stupid name like that which was created to use the same "SC" acronym. It's evolving nicely though, nice models.
Lots of different gameplay, and these are only the ones *I* am expecting the most. There's lots of other stuff going on at the moment, like the GI Joe and CE mods. And considering there's no SDK software available for modders (other than software created by themselves), it's a pretty impressive feat. With the release of battlecraft (finally, bf1942 map editor) on some weeks/months, I expect to be real nice maps, RtR-quality, and not the crap/hacked stuff that's been released today by heroes who edit maps in notepad.

Have any of you considered the amount of money and time that EA is spending on maintaining a set of -mostly- exellent servers. TBH, after playing on them and considering that as far as I know only Xian of id software provides this kind of support for his games, it still seems like a pretty good deal to me. Also, please remember that the quoted price is offcourse highly provisional, and subject to change.

Ok, so they make good games, but jesus fucking christ talk about milking a game name. How many expansions do they have to make for each game they release? MoH, Sims, now BF. BF is a great game but come on $60 for two expansions that could have been one expansion or a decent size patch. This is worse than the Diablo 2 Expansion a few years back. I'm guessing they release another MoH x-pac and BF x-pac!!!
