Unreal 2 Patch / Demo News
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 13, 2003 6:07pm PSTThe Infogrames Unreal 2 forums has a post by Legend's Glen Dahlgren, who mentions that a patch for Unreal 2 is in the works. It will "address a number of the issues that people have raised in these forums". A demo is now definitely being worked on as well. Thanks Blues News. Update: here is a mini patch already which will supposedly fix EAX crash bugs.

Honestly, EAX is worthless and Creative Labs sucks ass.
When are devs going to wise up and just stop wasting time coding this garbage? id already pointed out that EAX is shit and they're not supporting it.
Furthermore, I quote a MAME developer:
"Current PC sound cards have horribly underpowered DSPs and they're not programmable by games anyway. Sound should be where graphics is: fully programmable cards via a standard interface. The Xbox (and NForce2-DD) sound system is an important step in that direction, but until NV gets smart and slaps that on a PCI card nobody's going to code for it."
EAX is just lame filters applied to sound effects that's no more impressive than Duke3d's "underwater" filter. That was in 1996, people, and Duke3d was more efficient CPU wise. :P
It's time to get some real soundcards.

Its just going to laugh at your PC when any amount of bad guys get on the screen (frame rate droping). You'll beat the game in a few days and have nothing left to do. And you'll wonder how the hell a game in this day in age doesnt come with multiplayer...
The graphics are great, no doubting that, and the gameplay is good throughout but nothing amazing. In short, "borrow" it from someone when their done but dont waste your money ;)

honestly this game was lackluster at best.
There were NONE of the kinds of experiences any of us had in Unreal. After walking out of the Vortex Raiders ship, seeing that sun in the sky..birds circling..music queue, water falls...it was great.
Unreal 2...had barely anything to do with Unreal in the first place...and there were definately no experiences in the game worth remembering. Sure it looked pretty...I will give it that..but are we exploiting an engine here? If so, I would pay half the price and just register my copy of 3DMark 2003.
What are we looking at here guys? A game called Unreal 2, using an Unreal engine, but having nothing to do with the original Unreal in any sort of congruent form.
Now pay attention here. I never said the game was bad. But I think alot of people were let down. I think alot of people were wanting to experience those very simple but well executed instances in Unreal that really made us remember it. None of this happened.
Hell i remember laughing about how Valve was claiming that there levels would be built seamlessly in Half-Life..so even though it loads..you wont be taken out of the game istelf visually.
Did anyone miss the fact that Epic did this first with Unreal?
To me Unreal 2 was like watching the made for tv mini series, Knight Rider 2000. They had a talking car, it had rocket luanhcers, rocket boosters and a very cynical talking computer, all packaged in a cherry red Dodge Viper....
but it still...was'nt knight rider...it was nothing that I was made to expect it to be.
Unreal 2...is NOT Unreal 2.

Gameplay: short bursts of FPS sandwiched between long load times and pain cutscenes(how many times do we have to watch the shuttle dock or land?)
Plot: repeatative
AI: weak
COOP: none
Multiplay: none
Length of game: short
Value: low to rip off

Nothing special, nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. Most people will enjoy it for 10 hours then never touch it again.
The original was much better and definitly longer...

No multiplayer support = nothing left after beating it.
Its a short game anyway... Impressive graphics, good gameplay, but just short.
