First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 13, 2003 8:32am PSTThough I preordered, and today is the release day here in the Netherlands, I haven't heard anything about my C&C Generals order. That's pretty sweet. Since the program went through EA NL I'm not exactly sure what store to call either. Guess I'll call a few stores just to see if they have the game. As I write this (and was thinking wtf to write about), I am downloading a preview build of Devastation (read this interview if you don't know what game that is) so I should be able to offer my impressions of the single player part of the game in a few days. Hopefully a demo for all you guys to play isn't too far away. Movie: I hear he's fruity as a nutcake

In fact, the iBook isn't getting an address from the router - I check the iBook's network settings, it's some 169.x.x.x address when my DHCP server gives out 192.160.0.x addresses. The DHCP server works with the machine I'm typing this message from.
How can I make things work they way they're supposed to? I want the iBook to get an address via DHCP and be interwebbable.

It's a natural to compare this game to WC3, since both series were previously 2d. I'm going to beat this dead horse a little more as I've been playing both over the last few days.
C&C is beautiful to look at. I like the scale a bit more than WC3. The soldiers are much smaller than the tanks and buildings while WC3's units are all the same size i think. I tend to like the modern warfare setting over the D&D-type fantasy stuff. This is all subjective personal preference stuff. The units make sense to me upon seeing them for the first time. I know what a tank does. I know what a jeep does. I have no clue what the tree-like thing is for until I screw around with a bit.
That said, C&C has some interface issues that really effect usability. I find RTS type games to really center around interface, more than graphics. How easy is it do produce/direct an army? A game that makes this difficult is going to suck regardless of how pretty it is.
Perhaps because I've been playing WC3 so much, I found adjusting to the new interface a bit of a chore. Like pervious C&C games, it doesn't support the right-click for actions. You have to select the units and left click on where you want them to go/attack. Left-clicking also moves the screen around, so it's really easy to accidently move your units when you really just wanted to see what's happening in another part of the map.
WC3's interface has a few useful additions that make a big difference. Cycling though same-type units in a group with the TAB key is fantastic in WC3. C&C doesn't even show you your currently selected unit's heath in the status bar. I still haven't figured out what to do with the pilots I've found. The manual was of no help. I'm sure I'll figure it out, but this should be bread&butter stuff.
In short, the interface could have made this good game great.
I give it 3 out of 5 rectal exams.

A new Space Quest game seems less and less possible.

Is there such a thing as true love? I mean, scientifically its been shown that "love" is really just chemical reactions taking place in the brains of those "in love" with each other, releasing hormones etc.
Before science found this out, "love" was always a magical thing... now when I think about it, there seems to be the possibility someone might be able to create an actual "love potion #9" to instill these same feelings tho those who take them - a love drug if you will.
What do you think? Is there something about "love" that science will never be able to explain, or are people more attached to the *idea* of being "in love" and would rather deny to themselves that all that really takes place is chemical reactions in their own brains & bodies?

Imagine if car dealerships did this. You buy a new corvette and the transmission goes once you drive it off the lot. "Oh WE don't fix it.. but you can take it somewhere else and pay for it to get fixed". Fuck.

3 gas stations, 2 groceries stores = $300 someone spent on a check card I have in MY possession. Effin A man. Balance = $37.
Placed call to bank, card cancelled but they're treating me like a criminal. Hell, the charges are in LA, an hour away, and coincide on days with other charges here, right in my home. Not to mention, $100 on gas in two days? So I ask them to credit the account on the charges I've disputed (to cover a few checks I have out) ... reply: Yeah, in the next ten days. wtf...
So, how did someone go to TJ Maxx and Albertsons and use a card I have in my possession? and how did they spend $52 in gas in one stop? And then fill up twice again each day?
This is just screwed.
