New IGI 2 SP Demo
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 13, 2003 8:03am PSTCodemasters send along a new IGI2: Covert Strike demo, offering a level "high in the Carpathian Mountains and has David Jones, our IGI (Institute for Geotactical Intelligence) agent, on a reconnaissance mission tracking down a nano-technology chip, held by the local mafia". The full version of the game will be out very soon.
Not sure what happened but it looked like we carried the previous demo for a while. This has now been fixed. Oops.

Good:
Weapon models are nice, sounds are okay
Terrain engine looks nice
Bad:
Indoor environments look like something from 1995
The pistol seems infinitely accurate, you can tag people and cameras at hundreds of yards. Kinda defeats the point of avoiding cameras.
AI sucks ass, as usual. They'll run aimlessly around, right past you, they'll stare at you for ten seconds before deciding if they're going to shoot at you...
Character animations are goofy. Why must your character wiggle his ass going up and down a ladder? Um, not that I was looking, or anything.
The thermal camera thing is a joke. Wow, it turns all the enemies orange. Nothing else that should be hot is any different.
This is what you would get if ValuSoft did Splinter Cell.

IGI was so badass but suffered because of the fucking enemy respawning crap :(

As long as this game doesn't FORCE stealth on you, I'm all over it, but if there's a lot of missions that make you automatically fail if you're detected then I'm not interested. I want the option to walk up to a base, kill a handful of guards, set off the alarms, have the rest of the guards stream out at me and die, then I'll finish my mission in a deserted base at my own leisure. :)
