Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Cancelled

by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 11, 2003 11:30am PST

Surprising news has just come in from Activision. The new Wolfenstein game Enemy Territory has been cancelled. Originally this was going to be a retail release with a single and multiplayer part. However, development of the singleplayer part wasn't turning out all that well it seems. The multiplayer part will still come out though, it will be released as a free downloadable expansion for Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

In Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Axis and Allied teams do battle in traditional single scenarios, or wage war through a series of linked scenarios in a totally new campaign mode. During combat players gain experience and skill, and through battlefield promotions are awarded additional abilities that remain persistent across an entire campaign. Additionally, new character classes like the covert operative class as well as an enhanced engineer allow teams to perform reconnaissance, steal enemy uniforms, and construct battlefield structures and military installations in the midst of combat to gain tactical advantages for their team. All new game modes, maps and communication abilities require players and teams to develop advanced strategies and tactics in the struggle for front line domination.

  • I just hope they make the portable m60 worthwhile...i hated seeing those guns in the bunkers on beach just standing their never being used. They should make it 1 shot 1 kill with decent accuracy As far as bf1942 and wolf is concerned....wolf/cs/q3 will always get more respect in society because it requires alot more skill to play..and skill/coordination are rewarded more in sports, than say intelligence. Now bf1942 is more of a mind game instead of a shooter. So if your into that more power to you. I havent played bf1942 with the new patch but at qcon i played it on lan and it lagged even there..it was like i was shooting at ghosts. I can remember shooting at ghosts back in 1993 descent netcode. and i dont really want to go back to that.
