On a related note, Nvidia has contacted us to say that it doesn't support the use of 3DMark 2003 as a primary benchmark in the evaluation of graphics cards, as the company believes the benchmark doesn't represent how current games are being designed. Specifically, Nvidia contends that the first test is an unrealistically simple scene that's primarily single-textured, that the stencil shadows in the second and third tests are rendered using an inefficient method that's extremely bottlenecked at the vertex engine, and that many of the pixel shaders use specific elements of DX8 that are promoted by ATI but aren't common in current games.

"3DMark03, a DirectX 9 Benchmark?" This is one question that we really must ask ourselves. Game 1 is a very simple DX7 test that is not representative of any current games. Game Tests 2 and 3 are DX8.1 but use Pixel Shader 1.4, which is not used by any games we are aware of and will not be to our knowledge. Game 4 is a hybrid of DX8/DX9. It is these four tests that determine the overall score. Only one game test in this benchmark DirectX 9 and then only partially.
Is 3DMark03 really a good indication of what “Real World†gaming is? Is 3DMark03 really "forward looking"?
With all that we have seen so far it does not appear to actually give us any indication how video cards are going to compare in any real games. It produces an overall 3DMark which is taken from unbalanced game tests. Furthermore as we have seen directly above in the benchmarks, drivers can be optimized to run the game tests faster. The problem is this is just a benchmark and not based on any real world gaming engines. Therefore while you may get a higher 3DMark number you will not see ANY increase in performance in any games that are out there.
One issue we have been discussing as of late with amoungst ourselves and with ATI and NVIDIA, is the implementation of real world game benchmarking versus synthetic benchmarking. We do feel that synthetic benchmarks do have their place if used properly. Actual games or gaming engines should remain the primary focus though. When it comes right down to it we would rather see improvements and gains in real world games rather than in synthetic benchmarks.
In closing, Kyle has informed me that [H]ard|OCP will not be using the overall 3DMark03 score to evaluate video cards.

basically its kind of a p2p direct download thing its great for file "swarming" on a big release like this.
the way it works is theres a few seeds who host the completed file and when you connect to download you automatically upload so the more people leeching the faster everyones download goes.
if this could be put on a fast central server it would really be nice- the end of queues maybe.

Alot of fanboys whining, and alot of whining about fanboys. I've never seen a larger group of biased people, arguing over some information that absolutely straightforward.
Obviously the tests are not all DX9. There is a breakdown of each test and what it tests (as most of you have made painfully obvious). So, based upon this information, it should be easy to conclude what the better card is per test. It should also be easy to conclude what this benchmark is good for.
Drivers blah blah blah, processor (not really) blah blah blah, Driect X blah.
You need to stfu and accept what you see.
If you don't like it, then look at what everyone else is posting. It's the same shit. And before you open your mouths, you should get your facts straight, so you don't embarass yourself while mouthing off.
I see a benchmark that provides a nice variety of tests. That's it. If I want to run some other tests, I might select another benchmark. Nowhere does this benchmark say that it can determine what the best video card ever is.
However, it does say which video card is better at what. The final score is BS, but that's why there's the breakdown.
And if you want my opinion overall, the 9700 > Ti4600.
I don't give a fuck about drivers, I don't give a fuck about their history, and I don't give a fuck about what you have to say, because any dumbass who can put two charts side by side can see. I don't need any 3DMark03 to tell me that.
