FileShack v1.5
by Steve Gibson, Feb 10, 2003 12:57pm PSTI'll make this short and sweet. We're running a new sendfile codebase on FileShack. The code is re-written from the ground up with the intent of fixing any outstanding issues people have been having with downloads aborting. If at any time in the past you've had troubles with FileShack downloads dropping on you please give it another shot today. Here's a good file to test:
- Matrix Reloaded Super Bowl TrailerThis new code will also allow us in the future to open up more public slots for FileShack as we'll be able to more effeciently measure and control outbound traffic and scale things accordingly. Please share your results in the comments, especially if your downloads used to drop and this new code fixes it.. cuz it will make Jack get a warm fuzzy.

First off, half the time, the page won't even load. It just says that the page is waiting to load and then it times out. In the middle of the night, the site works just fine. Weird.
Next, when I do get the page loaded, half the time, it would seem as if the CSS tags aren't working because the tables don't line up and all the text is black. An image of what I'm talking about can be found at (http://www.stelth.ca/images/fileshack.jpg).
I downloaded the Matrix teaser and it worked perfectly. 100K/sec and the download completed just fine, so in that respect, everything works, just those two things that prevent me from using FileShack as my main file-getting-service.

Btw - I just wanted to say that I havent signed up for fileshack cause its just not for me (even though I shack too damn much). But thats not what this post is about.
I think its cool that this stuff is still being worked on. Also, new stuff comes to the shack and the shit is being kept free. With the headlines thing I was the first to say woo woo to the fact I had it even though I wasnt a subscriber.
With that said, probably w/ the next big demo + paycheck I will get fileshack cause I think Steve has done this in a cool fashion.
Anyhoo, carry on, nothing really to look at here.
OK.
Just wondering since I have no credit card!
where did the boston server go btw? haven't seen it in a while

I think I can safely say that a pretty easy to use interface does not a good website create...wait a second.. nevermind.
Can't wait!!

FileShack is still an excellent resource though - even at 100kb/s
I loved the 300-400KB/s I was getting...
3 cheers!
Jack, if I ever meet you in person, I will buy you a taco. If you are so fucking tired of people making taco jokes about you that you won't let me buy you a taco, I'll make you some phad thai or something.

In the past, I'd say that for about 1 of 3 attempted fileshack d/ls, I'd wait the required time, only to have the link download some 150k file and then break. Seem to have gone away so far. Nice work!
Works flawless
fileshack still rules though. :)
Will there ever be a time where Fileshack would be closer integrated with Shacknews? I'm a lazy bum and logging in in two different pages is kinda lame.
