New BF1942 Linux Server Release

Gawyn let us know that BF1942.com is reporting on a new release of the Battlefield 1942 dedicated Linux server. Among other changes, it now uses the 1.3 codebase. You can find a mirror of the 62mb file on FileShack.

  • Wallhack results in a breach in trusted computing setup.. basically, the server is trusting the client to report wether or not it is "clipped" by walls.. so if the client modifies the models so the walls aren't solid, the server just blindly trusts it. The fix for this sort of thing is usually a bunch of checksumming of models etc, moving more control to the server.

    I've been testing this linux server since the first release. It's gotten better, but there are still some pretty bad desychronization issues (no change in ping, but lag between your actions and their results appear)
