Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Feb 02, 2003 5:17pm PSTThe only sucky part about weekends is the part where they end. Glad so many of you guys approve of the All Seeing Eye stuff, we're pretty excited about it here too. Kinda strange seeing something like that show up in a program I use every day anyways. Gives me the heebegeebies or something. So uh, yeah hey look here:
- A new protocol for web services - Electric utilities and cable? - Bush is gonna propose a budget increase for NASA - Police cars with ads - Feds are stepping up the Martha Stewart investigationLastly, telemarketers fight back on the do-not-call list. Booooo.

And you guys wonder why games are getting shorter, and multiplayer is getting dropped, and dev's are moving to consoles.
Don't bother responding or rationalizing, or trying to "convince" me. I've said my piece.

They think that because they wouldn't have bought it anyway, they're not depriving anyone of any income. What they don't get however, are the snowball effects of this.
Okay, so everyone's happily paying for there music cd's, games, movies, whatever. Then Joe Bob starts pirating some stuff. He wouldn't have bought the stuff anyway, so he thinks its okay. Then people who didn't know you get this stuff for free, starting hearing about what Joe's doing. They start deciding "hey why pay, I'll get it for free too" and do so. And then it keeps snowballing. More people pirate, and more people see more people pirating.
The fact is, pirating something you weren't going to pay for probably isn't THAT bad okay. I'll agree with that. But what it does, is help bring piracy into the mainstream. When piracy hits the mainstream, THAT'S when it becomes a problem. As soon as people become okay to pirating what they won't pay for, they become more leanent to piracy as a whole.
Another common rationalisation along these lines is that things are too expensive, and that if they were cheaper they would buy them. Well, there's a thing called bargain bins! Games don't last long at their $50 dollar price tags. They do come down in price. Budget sales, are still sales.

If I tape a show on a VCR and then let my friend tape the show on his VCR how is that different from taping a show on a TIVO converting it to DIVX and then sending it over the i-net to my same friend?

Instead you could have gotten the money on your pay check and put in somewhere either to make you money or to buy something or whatever.
Adjusting how much comes out of your check is easy, just fill out a new W-4. It takes about 2 mins and whaloa you get a bigger paycheck. It's your money...why let Uncle Sam have it for a year?

From earlier, about the disabling Microsoft's alert system to stop pop-ups,
I use alot of creative software like: Photoshop/Illustrator/Flash/Dreamweaver/Quark/Premiere/3DStudioMAX which tend to pop-up alot of messages while using them . . .
Should I not be worried about these features not working?

Anyhoo, I was wondering something else but its enviromently related. Basically, the shuttle comes through a LOT of atmosphere. Well, the more poluted and smoggy some of these places get that the shuttle has to fly over, isnt that like "more" atmosphere they have to cut through and isnt this adding more and more heat?
