Devastation Interview
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 28, 2003 12:56pm PSTAs I promised when I posted those environmental screenshots from Devastation on Saturday, we now have an interview about the game. Senior Producer Vic DeLeon (thoroughly) answers questions about the single player campaign, teamwork, AI, modifications made to the Unreal engine, multiplayer options and several other topics. Three new screenshots are included.
Shack: How does Devastation benefit from using the Karma physics engine? Vic: It changes the nature of the shooter at its very core. You can kick, push, pick up, carry, throw, roll things downhill etc. You can make noise by running into things like trash, or you can set traps and barricades. It has really gone a long way to make our game world a living, breathing place where almost everything is useable. There's really so much that hasn't been said about this, and I'll gladly shed some light on it. Almost everything you come across in the game can be kicked, knocked over, pushed, picked up, carried, used as a shield, and THROWN! Chairs, boxes, buckets, gas cans, oil drums, barrels, TV's, all kinds of crap, even trash you find in the street. Here's some advice about making your own shield out of barrels- water barrel=good, kerosene barrel=bad.Check it all out here.

Me after reading this inteview: Hmm. This sounds pretty cool.
The demo will totally make or break this game for me.
I am very interested in the demo, now that Unreal II pissed me off so bad.

Whether it does good or not, here's 3 cheers to a dev that is willing to be original!

Thank you for your time reading my post.
Best part: "...you can pay attention to the story, which has a substantial amount of depth, or you can skip through and just blow shit up if that’s what you want."

Well i'm sure someone will mod it for coop right from the start.
Is it just me or is anyone else really impressed with this?
It seems like the guys making it are jam packing it with content, good detail, good story, and some good gameplay. They are also making sure everything is cool in single player AND multiplayer, as well as adding in a bunch of gimmicky stuff like sweet particle engines, rat drones and throwing chairs at people.
They are als releasing it with all the tools needed to fully mod it, as well as releasing a demo, which is more then some companies can say (cough epic).
If these guys can deliver on everything their are promising (which isn't that outlandish to begin with, just very complete) this game could turn into something really special.

sweet. no mention of co-op though, which with the emphasis on teammates seems like a glaring oversight. :/
