Late Night Consoling

This afternoon I read this story over at Cinescape, where the author laments the news that Shenmue III will appear only as a CGI movie, and not a game. Jumping over to the Shenmue Dojo clarifies things somewhat. Or no, not really. Apparently the source from this rumor was none other than the game's official site, which repeated a statement by Yu Suzuki in a recent magazine interview, saying that there would in fact be no third game, but rather another CGI movie, like the one released from footage of the original game. But before anyone gets up in arms about this, pay attention to a later clarification by AM2, which says that, "it is rather useless to make to make a film while there is no game (yet)." So what's the story here? I have no idea. Me, I'd love a third game. But with the Virtua Fighter RPG in development at AM2, it seems very unlikely for the immediate future. Who knows...it may happen on a future console. But if I had to guess, I'd say that whatever work has been done on a third Shenmue game is currently on the sidelines. Hopefully a full clarification will come out soon to appease the series' many fans.

GameCube GameBoy Advance Limited Edition GBA SP in Japan Here's an incentive to get a new Game Boy Advance...in Japan, they're going to be offering a limited edition version of the GBA SP that comes with a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It doesn't seem likely that this will come out over here, since the game won't be out when the GBA SP is released, but any importers can rest easy knowing that the GBA SP, like its siblings, has no territorial lockout. On a semi-related note, it was announced that the GameCube GBA Player will be out on March 21st in Japan. It should be out here around May.

GameBoy Advance Watch Out, Nintendo... Sony's coming after your GBA! Or...not. The company has announced plans to leverage the success of their Airboard (a sort of remote control with an LCD screen) and use it as a platform for games designed for the 40+ market. I think Nintendo's safe for the time being.
PS2 Woo...funkay. GameSpot has some new media up tonight from Lowrider, the crazy dancing-racing game which is already on my list of the craziest games of the year (I really hope this comes out stateside). Here are links to new movies and screenshots. This stuff is available to non-subscribers for a limited time.
Console Game of the Evening: Bionic Commando for the NES. Yeah, it's already been used, but Dmiller suggested it last night, and I'll do anything for a paid Shack subscriber (or...not). Also, I must bow down to Azshack, as he claims to have beaten this freaky-hard game the same day he rented it. How long did it take you to beat Super Ghouls n' Ghosts?
