First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Dec 28, 2002 9:13am PSTWhen you see this, you know you gotta start updating! As Jason mentioned last night, it's total barrel scraping during these last few days of the year, though today it really isn't much different from other Saturdays. Looks like our FileShack server upgrades are almost done, San Francisco should be the last one on Monday. It looks like the Los Angeles server was rebooted deep into the night, we had no warning before that so sorry if you couldn't finish your download. Movie: How about no, you crazy Dutch bastard
Diablo 3 patch coming next week
Elder Scrolls Online plans to sort out bugs with long beta
Super Monday Night Combat launches Turbocross mode
The Secret World delayed until July 3
Daily Filter: Sleeping Dogs, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Of course this post would be pointless without pics. No divx tho, sorry.

The car itself was a little under seven grand. 1998 Honda Civic HX, 85k miles, 5spd. I like it. (For reference, the car I just traded in was a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina 4dr sedan, with 113k miles on it.) Shifting into first gear on a hill without drifting back too far is kinda difficult, though. :) I didn't take any interior shots, but when I first looked at the car (and later when I drove it outta the lot) I noticed that it didn't have a cd player installed, just AM/FM radio. Kinda disappointing, but oh well. Half an hour later while I was sitting in a restaurant parking lot waiting on a friend, I happened to look in the glove compartment and saw that someone had installed an Alpine 6-disc changer in there. :-))) Total surprise. No one at the dealership mentioned it, and I didn't see "CD" on the window sticker. It works great, sounds good too.
There was a lot more paperwork than I expected. Took a while to understand it all, too... had to make sure they didn't try and screw me, hehe.
Thanks Shack, for the advice (especially Alcueso). Oh and uh, am I just weird or does the car look like its been lowered? I'm going to try and find a factory shot of a '98 Civic HX and compare it. Could be the little trim wings on the side of the car that make it look that way, though...

The Issue
Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in Futtbuckers's automobile manufacturing industry.
The Debate
"Unless this government does something, Futtbuckers won't have an auto industry for much longer," says auto industry union boss Randy Broadside, in a rare public appearance alongside management. "These foreign companies employ people for a few futtys a day. The only way to level the playing field is to raise tariffs. The government would make more money, too, so it's win-win."
[Accept]
"For once, I agree with my grubby colleague here," says General Chassis CEO Thomas Trax. "Although I have to say, tariffs aren't the only answer. A more effective solution would be to abolish minimum wage laws. Now that would level the playing field. And we'd be able to employ more--argh, let go of my throat!"
[Accept]
"I think we need to face facts," says noted economist and chat-show regular Zeke du Pont. "We live in a global economy now, and automobile manufacturing just isn't Futtbuckers's strong suit. There's no point taking money from taxpayers in order to line the pockets of a few greedy workers and corrupt managers in a doomed industry. Let the market takes its--argh, let go of my throat!"

Is there any program/app/driver set I can use to allow the TV to simply lower the resolution and give me the desktop space I want?

I heard some of it on the radio (X-FM in vancouver) but I didn't catch the name.
It sounded kinda slow and was less screaming more talking from Chrish Cornell.

There was one small thing that I noticed, though.
When Saruman is showing his army to Grima Wormtongue, Grima sheds a tear. Why is that? Maybe for Eowyn?

Children as young as eight have been spotted gambling in some of Macaronia's seedier casinos.
The Debate
1. Social activist Calvin Falopian is outraged. "Gambling needs to be outlawed immediately. It's no wonder children are becoming sucked into the vice, with adults setting such a poor example. Gambling is a stain on Macaronia's international reputation and it must be stopped!"
[Accept]
2. However, Crown Casino chairperson Billy Chicago says, "What's wrong with children gambling? It prepares them for the realities of life, teaching them that success or failure is not due to hard work or intelligence, but the roll of the dice. Besides, if kids weren't gambling, they'd be spraypainting trains."

That's all the options.
