The little quote got me thinking - and I totally agree. Doom3 should be a perfect remake of Doom the original but with better tech ! That would be the ultimate compliment to the original game ... and I suppose in 5 years when Doom3 source is released maybe somebody will do this in their spare time...

For mostly selfish, nostalgic reasons, I'd prefer they use Doom as their literal design doc. I want to go through the first level of Doom, recognizing every corner and every monster and totally astonished at how much has changed, how much more like I feel I'm inside that comfortably terrifying universe. And I'd want the AI and weapons improved to the point that even though virtually everything looks and feels familiar, none of it really plays the same.
