Hey how about that, a little holiday surprise from Electronic Arts. They have released a new Battlefield 1942 level, called Coral Sea. According to EA, this level plays best with about 24 people. If you run a server, then there's this special file which will help you run the new map. Here's the full description of the level that EA sent along

Coral Sea is an exciting new map set in the Pacific theater. The action is fast and furious as players test their piloting skills with a total of 24 planes available on the map. The action isn't limited to dogfighting however as each side has a carrier that they need to defend at all costs. To win, you'll need to sink the enemy carrier, and then fly through a buoy that appears amidst the wreckage of the ship. Throw in some land-based AA guns and a defensive gun or two in the mix, and you've got our latest recipe for a great Battlefield 1942 holiday treat!

Jesus Tap Dancing Christ! Would they put an AUTO KICK patch out already?! I just tried playing on a server where there was 2 fags who would just sit on the flightdeck and TK everyone as they tried to take off. They would rack up like -60 score by the end of a round. This problem could SO easily be solved if Dice would just make an AUTO KICK/BAN patch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

PROS:
It's a new map
Planes spawn alot quicker
It's fun if your a good pilot/dogfighter

CONS:
Small
Few AA guns
2 spawn points
Only fun with alot of players, 15+
Yes, planes spawn quicker, but its also quicker to get blown up before leaving the carrier.

2/4 stars.

This looks so fucking sweet, thank you EA for the xmas present!! -- I love role playing as AA/engineer, what a great map as those are undoubtedly an important role to fill-- I suck at flying the plane (atleast compared to the masters out there) so this is a good map for me :).

But GOD DAMNIT I am going to be so fucking pissed off the moment I jump into a plane and it fucking explodes immediately because some TKing asshat decided to "booby trap" it by shooting it all up first. Dickheads. Atleast I'd be an engineer and repair it first, I'll show them!

Start up your own goddamn server, call it "TEHJ TKING SERVER" and everyone can boobytrap each others planes and knife each other to death. "why did you banzor me!?" fuckers.

anyone here tried playing on the NVIDIA servers? 64 player chaos! when the teams are actually playing, its good fun but you always end up with a guy sitting in tanks shooting at planes as they appear on the airfield or running into other vehicles or shooting teammates to send them up into the air so they die from the falling damage.

I think you have to fly in packs to win. The egineers are pretty quick, but if you have a convoy of bombers (3 at least) you can sink it.

other thing that worked for me was to get a bomber, go left or right clear of the main flight lane, climb up until 3/4 of the way there, start a dive as soon as you can aim at the carrier and release at least 2 loads on the way down. The AA isn't usually looking straight up at first.

It's pretty hard to win this map if the other team aren't fools (ie they are engineers and AA on the boat!)

Summary from a round or two: Planes are up for wholesale slaughter. Everyone has to spawn as engineer and fix before they take leave the carrier. Surprisingly nobody was bothering to be AA when I played, so I took care of that and got a ridiculous number of kills.

Planes are free points for AA guns NORMALLY, but when the sky is raining planes, it's like peanut butter jelly time for the AA gunners. THUMP THUMP *KILL* THUMP *KILL* THUMP THUMP THUMP *KILL*

Team fighters flying out of range of the AA guns should also have a fun time taking down enemy planes. Pity to the dive bombers that approach the carrier...

How to filter server running "Coral Sea" using All Seeing Eye

1: Start ASE
2: Go to Filter / New
3: Call the filter whatever you want, but be sure that the actual code reads exactly like this:

1 if map ~== "*coral sea*" goto 3
2 remove

4: The refresh you Battlefield server list. The new filter should be automtically selected, but you de/re-select it by clicking on it. (It's categorized on the very bottom of the filter list, under "My Filters"
