As some of you have already heard, buzz is all over the map right now that Nintendo is buying Capcom. Up until today most of the sources weren't particularly credible, but here's a story at CBS Marketwatch (scroll down) that quotes a substantial analyst and points out that Nintendo has announced plans for "a major announcement" tomorrow. So what do I think? My initial reaction was total disbelief, but I've heard a lot of things from a lot of different people that have turned me around on this. While I haven't gotten any confirmation, I am starting to think it's true. The implications are huge: what will happen to the Capcom brand name? Does this mean Resident Evil Online will now become a GameCube title? And most importantly, will Capcom take over the Super Smash Bros. franchise? I know I'm not the only one who gets giddy at the thought of a Capcom vs. Nintendo brawler. Hopefully all will become clear tomorrow. Stay tuned.

GameCube PS2 Xbox Console Drop Soon? Well, not soon soon, as in like tomorrow, but the latest edition of CNN/Money's Game Over column has quotes from various industry people who are in semi-consensus that consoles could be dropped from $50 to $100 within the next six months, and along with that, software will go down by $10. There's also a quote from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, who suggests that Nintendo may accelerate their Game Boy Advance plans to be prepared for Nokia's upcoming N-Gage gaming phone.
PS2 Final Fantasy X-2 Details The new issue of the Japanese manga 'zine Shonen Jump is out, and as promised it's got new information on Square's Final Fantasy X-2. All the details can be found at PS2.IGN, and there's all kinds of new stuff there, including details on the new battle system, plot specifics and more.
GameCube Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Update Also in that latest issue of Jump is new information on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, which is sounding like a very unique side game for the series.
PS2 Nobunaga's Beta Koei has announced that the Japanese Nobunaga's Ambition Online beta will kick off on Thursday. Alas, this is another massively multiplayer PS2 title that requires that darn hard drive, so there's no North American release on the boards yet.
GameCube The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Previews Milking their copies of the Japanese Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for all they're worth, new impressions of the game can be found at GameSpot and PlanetGameCube (where they have so many separate articles up that I'm just linking to their news page). Oh, and get your pre-orders in now: Nintendo has finally confirmed that the bonus disc is coming out here.
PS2 Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick Preview PS2.IGN has posted a new preview of Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick, Ash's latest console adventure. After the universally panned last game, one can only hope this is better.
Xbox GameBoy Advance Capcom vs. SNK EO Overview There's so little here that I can't even call it a preview, but an overview of sorts of the eagerly awaited Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO is up at Xbox.IGN tonight, along with new screenshots. On a semi-related note, Pocket.IGN has reviewed Street Fighter Alpha 3, which despite its control issues sounds like a great port.
Console Nag of the Evening: Have you voted for the Shack Game(s) of the Year yet? This is your last chance!

  • I wouldn't mind waiting 6 months for a console drop (well not much). I got the PS2 a year after it was released and still enjoy it now with it's oh so bountiful library of games (many of them in the bargain bin now). Consoles have a very long shelf life when compared to PC's, so waiting 6 months isn't so big a deal. Metroid Prime will still exist 6 months from now, and not having a GameCube kind of negates the jonesing for it. Unlike GTA:VC which I was desperate to get a hold of, but only because I already had the system to play it on.
