Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Nov 27, 2002 6:18pm PSTWell then, it seems like people are just loving up that Battlefield 1942 v1.2 patch, so much so that I think I may finally go out and buy it. I loved the demo but the netcode just frustrated me to no end.

The BF1942 Remote Server Manager utility has finally been released! If you run a Battlefield server on a remote box, you NEED this utility. Mong the features are..
- Change the current server settings (a subset of those in Server Manager)
- Manage the map rotation i.e load new map, set next map, restart current map
- Manage players i.e kick and ban
- Manage the ban list i.e add address, remove address, clear ban list.
- See the settings of all running servers at the IP address
- Monitor servers running at the IP address and optionally sound a crash alarm
- Type commands directly at the server console in a window
On the same page is also a replacement utility for the Battlefield DedicateServer.exe. The Battlefield 1942 Dedicated Server Manager has a BUNCH of options that aren't in the original DedicatedServer.exe. Some of it's features are as follows..
- Reads the current server settings from the config files at startup
- Includes all known server settings that can be set in the config files
- Supports multiple server configurations via command-line option
- Supports multiple server instances on a single computer
- Can start and stop a dedicated server without using the console
- Can monitor and automatically restart a server in the event of a crash
- Works with both the retail game and retail dedicated servers
- Can minimize the server window which is not normally possible
- Detects custom maps and allow you to include them in the map rotation
- Includes tool tips that tell you what each setting does
Both utilities can be found on this page: http://www.blackbagops.com/bfutils.shtml

Happy Thanksgiving! Get some grub, play some games, and enjoy the day.
Call your parents and other loved ones, let them know you are thinking of them. Call a friend you haven't talked to in a long time.
It's a bit lonely this time of year for me, my folks are in Florida, I'm in Illinois. Most of my friends here have gone home to see their folks and I'm stuck here alone. But when I start feeling sorry for myself, I remember that there are too many people in the world that are starving, don't have a roof over their heads, or suffering the consequences of war.
While I may be a bit lonely, life is good. Give thanks for the good in your life, pray for those who aren't doing as well.
I'm sure there are a few that don't believe in God or a higher being, but every one of us should be thankful for the good things in our lives.
Take care,
Thresher

Here's the situation... I have an e-book I want to read. It's a bunch of html files in a directory structure with seperate images and stuff. I want to transfer the files to my pda and read through them via the html links etc. Simple, right? Well..
On a Pocket PC: Create a directory for the files on the Pocket PC. Copy files over. Open Internet Explorer on the Pocket PC. Open the index.html file. There you go.
On a Palm PDA: ????????
None of these palm readers support html, and even if they did, they would be installed as seperate documents minus the images, and you wouldn't be able to travel between them via the hyperlinks because they are "installed" documents and don't exist in a visible/accessible directory structure.
This makes vantage a sad panda :(

Enjoy the day however you are choosing to spend it. Myself, I'm making my family the old turkey dinner, complete with stuffing made from scratch. I'll also be spending most of the day getting house ready to sell :(
I'll also get in some gaming on my new ti4600. What a great piece of hardware!

One of my finest troll posts from waaay back in the day. Even though no one remembers it, I started like 10 monster threads within about 2 hours that were not only totally unrelated to each other, but also like the most blatant troll posts ever and the whole shack took the bait :p
