64bit UT2003 Performance

Sunday good yes? Here's a brief Q&A with Tim Sweeney of Epic discussing the 64bit builds of Unreal Tournament 2003 that have been mentioned in passing before with all the hoopla surrounding the upcoming 64bit CPUs from AMD and Intel. Here is Sweeney discussing AMD's performance combined with his stuff:

In pure CPU performance, Athlon64 is about 15% faster than previous Athlon's of identical clock rate for 32-bit apps, and 30% for 64-bit apps, [...] we haven't benchmarked yet but expect it to be faster though less than 30% because the GPU is as significant a factor as CPU

Recent investor articles are putting the release of the 64bit AMD cpu early 2nd quarter of next year.

Bye AMD it was nice knowing you. I'm sorry but 15% isn't gonna turn alot of heads. Intel will be doing .09u soon and the nails on AMD's coffin will be sunk. Expect higher CPU prices in the future.

The % difference between an Intel P4 2.6 and 3.6 GHz CPU in the Q3 benchmark is 15%.

The question is ... how does this benchmark varry with Hammer's CPU frequency. I wish they could of overclocked it to give us an idea.

i dont get this. this story is about how the new amds are 30% faster than their current cpus at the same clockspeed, and those are already 10-20% or whatever faster than intel chips of the same clockspeed. and yet everyone here is like SO LONG AMD. isnt this like great news for amd? what am i missing here?

too bad CPU was running only at 1.4Ghz.
AMD has to ramp up speed to about 2.3-2.4Ghz level to stay competitive.
I'd guess that AMD will ship 3400+ rated Clawhammer running at 2.1-2.3Ghz in Q2.
anything above that will be gravy.
