P3-800mhz @ SE

To round out the evening, SharkyExtreme has an Intel P3-800mhz CPU already. Actually they got a non-locked P3-733 and cranked it to 800mhz. But the benchmarks they got should prove to be about the same. It's interesting to note that Sharky shows the Athlon faster than a P3-667 in Q3Test, and Anand shows the other way around with the Intel 667 on top. update: Just realized Anand used a GeForce and Sharky used a TNT2. So... oops.

  • Quick question:

Does Quake3 1.07 have SIMD support? I noticed that 1.07 is what Ace Hardware used to bench the CuMine and the Athlon against one another. If 1.07 doesn\'t have SIMD support, all the site does is gauge pure FPU performance. And if 1.07 does have SIMD support, there is certainly a descrepancy between that version and 1.08. I think what matters here is who has the best overall performance. Athlon\'s FPU isn\'t being used if 3dnow is turned on instead. The same happens with CuMine.

This definately levels the playing field.
Damn, I was really hoping for Coppermine to suck so that Intel would rush Williamette.

  • Damn they\'r epissed over at the sharkey\'s messageboard:
    1) Overclocked 733MHz (800MHz) Processor and comparing it to a
clock locked Athlon 700? <-- this is BS and a unfair
advantage toward AMD. Did \"Intel\" brownnose and offer
ca$h payment for this BS comparison...I\'m very sure this
    happened.

    2) Someone comparing a overclocked processor to a clock
locked processor WILL lose all credibility from here on.

    3) After Overclocking the 733-800 and then saying, \"The
performance is better than expect and faster than a
    Athlon 700...blah!blah!blah!\"...you\'re a frickin idiot!
This is like comparing Quad PII 400\'s against 1 500MHz
Athlon Processor, running Windows NT. It doesn\'t take
a genius to figure out who\'s getting paid to talk trash
about companies. You know, when the Athlon first
arrived, every test WAS legitimate, unlike now.

Sharky - review your article and take off the OVERCLOCKED
    800MHz.

Looks like I\'m going to rely on ANANDTECH or Tom\'s Hardware for my reviews. Sure Tom might have a large ego, but atleast he doesn\'t B*LLSH*T when it comes to comparing NEW processors.
