IGN's prediction turned out to be true, as Nintendo announced today the GameCube Game Boy Player, a hardware add-on for the GameCube that lets you play GBA games on your television. Well, I'm certainly excited about this. I'm a big fan of the Super Game Boy for the SNES, and this is basically an updated version of that. The GBP connects to the high-speed serial port and actually has a Game Boy link port on it, which allows you to either link up to another system or GBA for multiplayer, or even connect a GBA unit for use as an external controller. Sweeeet. It's scheduled for release in March in Japan, and May here, with an estimated price of about 5,000 yen (~$40 USD).

GameCube More Big GameCube Announcements Soon? According to the latest issue of the Japanese mag Famitsu Cube & Advance, two "large third parties" will be making announcements before the end of the year (and neither of them is Capcom, who already made their announcement last week). In the write-up of the story at Games Are Fun they mention that they have confirmed that Konami will be making a GameCube-related announcement next week, which is likely one of the two companies. Who's the second? My money's on Enix, but that's total speculation.
Xbox Xbox Live Connection Problems This story at News.com reports on various problems people have had connecting to Xbox Live. As expected, users of modded Xbox consoles are permanently banned from the Xbox Live network, and apparently users of AOL broadband (not Road Runner) have had some problems as well.
GameCube PS2 Xbox Mortal Kombat Guidance If you're planning on picking up Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance this week, you might want to consult the guide over at The Realm of Mortal Kombat. It's a work-in-progress, but there's already a great collection of moves for some of the major characters. If you just want to skip to the meat, GameSpot has posted a list of key combos for all the game's fatalities.
PS2 More FFX-2 Details Some new details from Final Fantasy X-2 are up at GameForms tonight. There's nothing too exciting, but they do report that the characters will change outfits depending on their jobs, which apparently can be changed while still in a combat sequence. GameForms also has some new scanned shots from the game.
Xbox Hot Mech Action Get ready to break your piggy bank, as Steel Battalion has shipped to retailers. According to Capcom the game is only available in limited supplies, with more to come next week. In other Mech news, Ubi Soft has announced plans to bring the very strange Japanese Xbox game Murakumo: Mech Hunter to the US (with 10 new missions to boot).
PS2 MGS Input Needed Readers of the Japanese magazine Famitsu are being given the chance to give feedback on Metal Gear Solid 2 to series creator Hideo Kojima. Here's a suggestion: hire a damn screenwriter next time!
PS2 PS2 Online Stats According to the latest released figures, Sony has sold 200,000 network adapter units. Of those sold, 57% are using it for broadband connections, while 43% are using dialup. That's an interesting figure, and certainly makes the case for supporting narrowband.
Console Game of the Evening: Super Game Boy for the SNES. Okay, so it's not really a game...but it's close. This really was a great product. While it was never promoted as such, the SGB is compatible with almost every Game Boy and Game Boy Color game, including many of those that are supposed to exclusively work with the GBC.
