Evening Reading

Well, those evil local channel operators bumped our Buffy tonight until tomorrow, so I'm gonna be grumpy and pouty for a little while. I think I need a really big baked potato or something... yeah, that'll do it. I am a painfully simple man. :( Oh hey look:

- The neverending argument of disclosing security holes - The wedding robot - Huge oil spill, ouch - Here comes a super super super computer, to be outdated in 2 years. - Easing workplace pain - Apparently people like spending money on the internet? - Two black holes are going to collide, basically that is when we all die.
Lastly, no Metroid Prime yet here at home. Bah bah bah. The woman appears to be sincerely enjoying all the extra Animal Crossing time though that she's getting in. It's gotten quite bad now, she's created a second city on an opposite am/pm setup so she can just flip flop between the two as it gets later into the evening. She also wants a wireless controller now so she can play while laying in bed... sigh.

  • Splinter Cell is amazing.

The lighting in the game is mindblowingly good. It's amazing how natural it looks and feels. You stop noticing the lights for a while because they look right, then find yourself perking up five minutes later when you realize you're just playing a game.

The gameplay itself is also top notch. I never got into MGS2 because of the emphasis on sneaking around a blah ship avoiding bland enemies wore thin quickly, but Splinter Cell has character. And no mullets. You can choose to hide and ninja your way past people or shoot them in the face and dump their bodies in a dark corner. Or both. At the end of one mission I had two bullets left and was being chased. I ran under some steps and watched through the grating above me as one soldier came rushing down. When he reached the bottom he looked around puzzled, so I shot him in the face. Before I could move him, his friend comes running down and sees the body. He stops and looks for the shooter, so I shot him in the face with my last bullet, then ran like a mofo.

I haven't had this much fun in a single player game for quite some time.
