Next Year's Unreal Tech
by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 19, 2002 3:56pm PSTGameSpot has posted a screenshot taken from one of many images released by NVidia yesterday with the GeForce FX announcement. It shows us what the Unreal engine will look like with new lighting effects and such, and it looks pretty damn sweet. No word on what game it is from though, but NVidia says several games next year will use "advanced versions of the Unreal engine".

Thats still the most amazing lighting i have seen today, even the leaked doom3 stuff cannot beat this lol!!

The lighting: I see very soft subtle shadows there, which probably means either
a) Sweeney knows something everyone doesnt and has dynamic soft shadows that nobody has been able to do. (highly unlikely, hardware isnt fast enough yet)
b) They are still using the same pre-calculated lightmaps and havent dont anything to the lighting. (most likely)
So the lighting does nothing for me as those are just nice light maps, and the poly count looks about the same as ut2003.

Without that it'd look crappy, but if I'm right and that lighting is similar to Doom 3's only not being "overdone" and rubbery looking.
Really nice.
(I think?)
