  • Let me point out a few thigs, the CPL had no blue prints to do massive events of this type. Why? Because no one had done events like ours before, so we had to improvise and risk making mistakes, which he did and will continue to do so.

    Hotels:

I also liked the Westin much more than the Hyatt. But the Westin could not accommodate us this time around. Maybe for another event.

    Restaurants:

    Area Restaurants within walking distance.

** 3-5 Minute walk from hotel:

    FERRIS PLAZA RESTAURANT
    306 S. Houston / 214-749-1068
Breakfast / Lunch (Blue Plate Style)
    To Go or Eat In
    M-F Breakfast 6:30 - 11:00 a.m. / Lunch 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    SAT 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

** 10 Minute walk from hotel:

    BLIMPIE SUBS
    509 Elm Street / 214-752-6145
    Lunch / Dinner
    To go or Eat In
    M-F 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    SAT CLOSED

** 10-15 Minute walk from hotel:

    MCDONALDS
    Commerce at Griffin
    M-SAT 6:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
    SUN - 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Plus we will have a food court right on the floor of the evnt. Check out the floor plan: http://www.cyberathlete.com/images/frag3.jpg

    Network:

Tim Schuh and David Gaspar have worked very hard to manage the CPL network and I think they\'ve done a great job... well they must\'ve as QuakeCon used David Gaspar to manage their network for QC99.

    Thanks again for the input!

  • ok, here\'s what i don\'t like about UT.

horrible level design: i still think it\'s made by newbies. maps are all the same and boring to play, no open areas to do anything. it\'s all narrow hallways connected to each other, nowhere close to as good as the q3 maps.

models: do i even have to mention what i don\'t like about the models ? it doesnt make it a worse game, but it makes q3a a better game and more fun to play with it\'s originality in steed\'s models.

overuse of colored lighting is bad
i don\'t like the weapons. seems like they tried to balance them but fucked up really bad somehow.
    the physics feel wierd
it don\'t run as fast as q3
and some other stuff i can\'t think of right now.

UT doesn\'t hold my attention as much as q3 does. UT is for playing domination, ffa dm, and that other mode that i forgot. all i play is 1v1 dm because of the strategy involved, which i don\'t find in UT. and i just can\'t stand the UT maps.
maybe i\'d buy UT if paul jaques and tim wilitis (i think i spelled em both wrong) made a level pack for UT, and steed made a model pack. or maybe if epic hired those guys to work for them i\'d even buy unreal 2, but neither look very likely. i don\'t think UT is a horrible game, but it\'s flaws make it impossible for me to play it

  • #15, since you asked:

    model animation looks wrong

male models look gay...but from what i hear, most male models are gay so that may not be epics fault...

    physics feel sloppy

graphics are too distracting...like that space station map just has a sick amount of color in the sky map...

hard to tell when you hit someone

models too hard to see (i think they tried to fix this in the latest version)

    levels are blocky

    bland textures

basically its not really that bad of a game, its just that q3a is slightly better in every aspect and they are so similar i wouldnt bother playing both...

  • Hmmmm,
Seems to me that the people who bash UT (demo) dont offer any
reasons why they dont like it. Offer some reasons please. I will tell
you why I think it rocks.

    1) The weapons are middle ping friendly. Especially with the alt fire
mode on the RL and shock rifle.
    2) Smooth gameplay, I ping 280 almost constantly and have no complaints.
    3) Graphix, after all, it is Unreal.
    4) Maps.... the maps are excellent... all have good flow for DM and teamplay.
    5) The melee\' weapon does some serious dmg. :)

It comes up short on the jump height and length, I think QII was perfect
in that aspect. Also, weapon switching is a little slow, but Im in favor of
instant switching anyway, so any delay seems slow to me. But these
are minor critisisms on a great game.

And as far as UT being at FRAG3, I think its great.
