Late Night Consoling

I'm back...and married! Go fig. I had a wonderful time on my honeymoon, although sadly, my plans for playing Tactics Ogre were shattered when I discovered that Alitalia doesn't allow the use of any electronic device capable of digital audio at any time during their flights. So for me that meant no GBA, no iPod, no iBook, no Clie...etc. Pretty much the only thing they do allow are tape Walkmans and some laptops, but (get this) only ones that are, "not connected to laser printers or CD readers." Yeesh. Suffice it to say, I had some extremely boring flights to and from Italy (thank god I had a few books n' magazines on me). I'll say this much: Alitalia is officially the worst airline in the world for the traveling geek. And that's not even counting the fact that they put my luggage on a different flight than me! (I still haven't gotten that back, and I've been home for 24 hours.) Anyway, a big thanks goes out to Maarten for filling in last week...he did a great job, didn't he? I'm still catching up on news, so if something seems a bit old here tonight it's because it fell through the cracks last week.

GameCube New GameCube Peripheral(s) Tomorrow? According to Reuters, Nintendo will be announcing one or more new peripherals for the GameCube tomorrow at noon PST. IGN's news item mentions rumors circulating that this could be a device to enable all GBA games to be played through a GameCube, but this has not been confirmed (although let's face it...that would rock).
PS2 Japanese PS2 Price Drop As noted in this story at IGN, Sony has announced plans to drop the price of the PS2 in Japan by "several thousand yen." As the system sells right now for approximately 24,000 yen, which is roughly $200, a drop by several thousand would put the price around $160 - $170. Also announced was a special Ratchet & Clank set, which will sell for 26,800 yen, or about $220. All of these numbers are estimated, as the PS2 has no set price in Japan (just wholesale costs).
Xbox Enter the Matrix on Schedule According to Game Informer magazine (by way of GameSpot), Enter the Matrix, which is apparently the title of Shiny's upcoming Xbox game, is still on schedule to be released alongside The Matrix Reloaded movie next May. If this is true, given the timing of its release, expect to see some concrete details in the next month or two, since it'll be out before E3.
PS2 Xbox Sega Online Q&A As part of their Xbox Live vs. PS2 Online article, CNet has posted a Q&A with Sega's Shinobu Toyoda, talking with him about their online plans for the two systems, and how they stack up against each other from a developer's standpoint.
GameCube GameBoy Advance Metroid Secrets Shots If you're curious, IGN has posted screenshots of the Metroid Fusion suit in Metroid Prime, as well as shots of the original Metroid as played via Prime. As has been mentioned here before, to get the suit you have to finish Metroid Prime, and to play the original you must complete Fusion before connecting the two.
PS2 The Getaway Goes Gold Well I'll be damned...the eternally-in-development PS2 title The Getaway has gone gold. No US release date has been announced as of yet, but it'll be out in Europe on December 11th. On a related note, here's a cinematic trailer from the game, which doesn't exactly show a whole lot of gameplay.
PS2 Vice City Guide If you're stuck in GTA: Vice City, you might want to consult GameSpot's full guide to the game, which goes through every main, secondary and extra mission from the game, and also provides some general details for the spoiler-concious. Note that this guide (unlike IGN's) is freely available to non-subscribers.
Xbox Xbox Live Upgrades Curious as to what games can be upgraded via Xbox Live? IGN has posted a nice article which has a roundup of the supported games, what can be added to them, and what's on the way in the near future.
PS2 ICO 2 Announcement Soon? According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Sony is getting ready to announce new games for next year at their annual PlayStation Party in December, and the game at the tip of every rumor monger's tongue is of course ICO 2. You may recall that a help wanted ad from the original ICO development team all but revealed the sequel a while back, but it hasn't been officially announced (or confirmed) as of yet. Update: Maarten posted this one last week, so appologies for the repost.
GameCube PS2 Xbox GameBoy Advance Misc. Media GameSpot has a new gameplay movie up from Jazz Jackrabbit for GBA, IGN has XXX-rated shots from BMX XXX, and Computer and Video Games has new shots from The Legend of Zelda and Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball for GameCube and Xbox respectively.
GameCube PS2 Xbox GameBoy Advance Misc. Reviews GameSpot has new reviews up of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (8.6) and Serious Sam (8.5) for Xbox, and Sonic Mega Collection (7.2) and Metroid Prime (9.7) for GameCube. IGN has new reviews of the Sonic Mega Collection (7.5 overall), Resident Evil 0 (8.2) and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (7.5) for GameCube, as well as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (8.4) for PS2 and Metroid Fusion (9.5) and Doom II for GBA (7.8). Console Gold has their own review of Metroid Fusion up, giving it a 99 out of 100.
Console Game of the Evening: Tempest 3000 for NUON-enabled DVD players. Did anyone ever actually play this game? I certainly haven't, and Tempest 2000 is among my favorite games of all time (it was actually the first ever CGotE).
