Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Nov 18, 2002 5:00pm PSTWell then, back home again. For some strange reason the 3hr drive home seemed to really just wiz by like nothing. Usually long drives are just painful to me.. I'm really wondering if I'll actually get to play my own copy of Metroid Prime when it arrives given that the woman is totally monopolizing the TV with that Animal Crossing stuff. Maybe I'll tell her there is a Sims convention in Houston or something. Oh hey look!
- A good plan on living forever is to never die - Amazon has Segways up for preorder - One man fighting for titties and gambling vs the US Thanks Fark - Help Fox end piracy! - Gates has smart gadgets - In case there was doubt, Osama lives - Meteor show incoming!Lastly, as promised we now have The Sims Online playtest available on Fileshack along with 20,000 cdkeys issued to us by the folks at EA Games, enough to go around. The playtest is only available to Mercury subscribers for the first few days though to keep our bandwidth bills at a reasonable level, as the file is 1.2gigs (yikes!). This isnt an exclusive btw, you can get it elsewhere and of course once our bandwidth settles it will be on the public servers as well. Unless someone wants to send us bags of money to pay for the bandwidth that 1.2gig files eat up.

I just came across an article in the local paper about a RPS tournament and they listed this website... wtf?? The top player won $1200 and a console (didnt name the system).
And I thought Magic the Gathering card playing nerds were at the bottom of the coolness/top of the nerdiness ladder...this takes the cake.

You know how you usually grab something to read before heading to the bathroom? Well, not anymore.. not for me atleast. 11mbit of sweet, sweet.. well, whatever I want.. directly connected to ~400GB of music, movies and whatever else I could ever need.
(Also, fixing up the family's computer park is awesome. I now finally can get rid of the old stuff (nForce1, some old 1.3GHz/SDRAM setup I never used, etc) in exchange for hot nForce2 love, 512 PC3200 DDR, a free 802.11b card, a 40GB ATA133 7200rpm HD, and a 1.3GHz Duron for the server. All for free! The best part? They are so thankfull! Life.. is goood!)

Remember how Creative couldn't code an SMP-compatible soundcard driver set if their life depended on it? Well, you can add "P4-HyperThreading-compatible" to that.

"William: ADSL is not supported by Xbox LIVE"
We have one central house "the shacker pad" in alphaville, were maxed at roommates now so what you need to do is have secondary housing, where you simply add roommates to it.
Then come "live" at the shack pad and give all your money to seawolf so he can get the best equipment as fast as possible and expand the house.
We have so many coders now working on DNF we might get it done!
