Thanks to VE for pointing the way to this quick blurb about the guys at AMD reconsidering the FSB's they are putting in to the lower end AthlonXP chips. Anyone here actually gotten to see or play with an AthlonXP beyond a 2100? I swear they launched those things a while ago.

I have a 2200+ (TBredA); it runs at 2050MHz and is hot as all hell.
I have a 1600+ (XP); it runs at 1900MHz (2.05V) and is noticeably cooler.

$50 AGOIS or AROIA stepping 1600+ XPs are a tremendous bargain...

I've had a 2200+ for about a week now, with DDR 2700. It does everything nearly 200% faster than my T-bird 1 Ghz I replaced. Can't complain about that! High quality divx encoding in 4 hours...woohoo!

I built a 2200+ for my sister (sigh, I'm still at 1ghz) and the thing hauls some major balls. At least 2x as fast as my 1ghz. The ram speeds are incredible.

However, had a terrible time getting the thing to run stable. The trick ended up being the thermal greese. I was told a while back to not use greese, but it has made all the difference.

According to that article, they are NOT actually " reconsidering the FSB's they are putting in to the lower end AthlonXP chips." The article states that the quite high-end 2600+ might move to 333 FSB, and that all the lower-end chips might just be moving to a .13 micron process. It says nothing about low-end chips moving to a new FSB.

I've had a 2200+ for a month or two now -- in Norway! The 2400+' are availiable in pretty good volume over here, too (50-100 in stock at most webshops I checked out), but anything above 2600+ isn't availiable for another month or so.

the 2400+ chips seem to be available in the US now, although trying to get anything over a 2100+ in the UK is proving near to impossible.
