Condition Zero: 2003?

by Steve Gibson, Nov 05, 2002 7:06am PST

So, everyone remember Condition Zero? A while back Gearbox Software was working on the game and it looked like it was only a couple months away from completion. We were even invited up to Gearbox to do a a little preview of it as we do with some games nearing completion in the Dallas area. Well, we've heard a total of nothing about CZ since. All we've got is back in July the Sierra release schedule was updated to list CZ as a fall release, and a trailer that was released the day Fileshack launched over 3 months ago. Well then, we're smack in the middle of Fall now and there has been nothing announced or a peep of PR, except for a couple of the CZ weapons finding their way into the upcoming Counter-Strike 1.6 release date. However, it appears that retailers are being told to push back their estimated release dates yet again. Generally speaking, you can almost never trust an online retailer who lists a game as coming out earlier than expected, as they get their dates from optimistic (delusional) publishers. However when you start to see dates pushed back nearly half a year, something is up.

- GameStop : 6 / 2 / 2003 - EBGames: 5 /1 / 2003 - Amazon: 2 / 1 / 2003 - CompUSA: 2 / 15 / 2003
Thanks to CSNation for first noticing this. I've fired off an email to the Valve folks asking whats up of course.

  • I hope this product does not show up on shelves at all, Its time to start making bigger better games and not rehashing older ones and claim to have new technological advances on the Quake2 engine... Games only look good for so long, once the appeal is gone do not try and attempt to draw anyone back with the same old shit just with new gimmicks.

Instead why not create a new standard for pc games by upping the content and increasing the competition. As it is right now it shows companies that people are willing to purchase products that are sub-par and out-of-date thus reducing the overall quality of potential titles.
