Gigex is hosting a 132mb demo of Surreal's action adventure game Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. This game is based on the novel, instead of the movie like the games from EA. It's not mentioned what the demo includes. Thanks Blues News. Of course we have the demo mirrored on FileShack.

Anybody have sound problems with this? I was just walking 'round the old hobbit hole and the sound effects went distorted and stayed that way until I restarted the game. SB Live! Platinum 5.1 - works great on every other game, latest drivers, XP, yada yada.

Do NOT buy this game.

It doesn't matter what your thoughts on the demo are, I was able to beat entire game in 2 and a half hours. I don't care how fun the game is, 2 and a half hours is UNACCEPTABLE.

Maybe its just me but i never had to wait up to 20 minutes to download anything (except cs/hl updates) on fileshack before mercury showed up....conspiracy?

It's like reading the book, only with less words... Which is kinda cool 'cause I hate reading. :) Gonna have to rent the Xbox version, I think.. Should be able to beat the game a helluva lot quicker than I could re-read the book. Plus, this way, I don't have to use my imagination..

Sure, it's not that much fun... but it's a LOT more fun than reading.

well, i am starting to loose faith with ea... two really bad demo's in two days.
i mean, the bond game was just bad because it was... bad.
this game could be good, but if it doesnt run properly, that is another black mark against them.

i guess when you get as big as they are, you dont need good demos... as long as you have the sims. heh heh.

This demo actually had to download a 650kb ISscript.msi file just to install it. I had to be online to even get the thing installed. And if I had a modem I'd be waiting 5 minutes just to get the thing started. I've never heard of such a thing.

Anyone else have this happen?

This is one weird demo. Dialogue that doesnt seem to exist, or there's text but no voice, or dialogue just ends but you have to press escape to get back to walking around. the gliding FPS mode is kinda funky too

Demo Review:
Fairly nice graphics, nice terrain design, somewhat fun combat (kind of a throwback to the old FoTR for SNES), crappy sound effects, crappy dialogue writing, crappy enemies, crappy AI, horribly crappy camera (even though it seemingly works just like the Max Payne camera, they totally fucked it up when you back into a wall), crappy level design, crappy quest system

In summary: 15% kinda fun, 85% crap.
