First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 18, 2002 6:42am PDTI'll be looking at upgrading the web mail script we have here on the Shack today. I didn't actually do to much testing when I first installed it and when I looked at it yesterday to check with issues of @shackmail.com people I see it could use some work. Hopefully later today a newer version of the script, or something better will be in place. Movie: Whoever wrote this episode should die!

Suppose it is raining. If I bike home I should get less rain on me than if I walk home, right? Because I'm going faster.
I don't think this is true. I think that going faster somehow exposes me to more rain per second and in the end I get just as wet either way. i.e., the amount of rain that falls on me is determined not by how fast I go, but by how far I travel.
Ignoring the fact that the rate of rain falling from the sky is not constant, does anybody have any idea if there is any truth to this guess of mine?

pickup drivers: it's all good that i can see down the road between your wheels, just try to keep me out from under them.
camaro/mustang drivers: cut the mullet and quit acting like you have something to prove to me.
taurus drivers: fix your car. i don't want one of your wheels bouncing into my windshield.
crown vic drivers: just because you're not in a bunch of accidents doesn't mean you don't CAUSE a bunch of 'em. try to keep up and drive predictably.
'sporty' import drivers: realize what your car is for and drive accordingly. redlining each gear is not necessary (unless you're me).
hoopty drivers: if you're gonna hop, don't do it at an intersection where you're going to delay me when the light turns green.
harley drivers: fuck you.

I'm just getting over a cold. I had this for a couple weeks and it's amost gone, I can, however, feel a very slight pain in my throat.
If I get pretty drunk tonight, will this worsen my cold or will it not do much?

BUF@MIA: Fins - Totally. Buffalo will score less than 20 and drew will get a mere 250yds passing.
CAR@ATL: Falcons - I really hate picking away teams these days. Carolina needs another reality check in a tough road game.
CHI@DET: da Bears - They're Ba-ack! Of course, @DET, IT'S A TRAP!
DEN@KC: Broncs - I'm insane. Only reason I'd make this pick
JAC@BAL: Jagyars - No Ray Lewis == No Raven D. I'm a hard-core Jacsonville pundit. Kinda a tough call since Burnell is still batman.
MIN@NYJ: Jets - The ultimate 'who the fuck cares' game. Gotta go w/home team.
SEA@STL: St. Louis - Just to make Jedi_27 happy
SF@NO: New Orleans - This game is so close. Watch the NO D finally get some respect. This is the 2nd best game of the week next to...
TB@PHI: Tampa - TB's defense is even better than people think. This is teh upset my friends AND the game of the week, easy
HOU@CLE: Browns - Thow me a bone here, Brownies!
SD@OAK: Raiders - Raiders want vengance for sad showing against STL. This game is not as good as it looks.
DAL@ARI: Cowboys - I just can't bet against them, despite my normal cobowy-hating ways. They intend to hurt me, and keep on hurting me.
WAS@GB: Packers - I'm afraid of what the skins could do to the pack, but they won't. Brett is throwing for 300+ and at least 2 td before they pull him.
IND@PIT: Steelers - Steelers gotta win this one. Seriously, if they lose, Cower has got to go.
Discuss.

From the AMG review:
Sweden's Pain of Salvation had been flirting with a breakthrough sound on each of its previous releases and finally achieved it on Remedy Lane. The true definition of the term progressive is often debated in musical circles and a solid case can be made that too many "prog" bands have relied on a proven formula rather than musical exploration and boundary pushing. Pain of Salvation has not only avoided the genre's typical clichés and stereotypes, but managed to emerge as one of its true innovators. Leader and vocalist Daniel Gildenlow is the heart and soul of this band and gives the music an overwhelming sense of authenticity and maturity. The group's strong pop sensibilities are once again evident and fall somewhere between Fates Warning's Parallels/Inside Out stage, early Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Pain of Salvation knows exactly when to change dynamics, moods, and tempos, and the band's precise execution of such changes is both flawless and inspired. The influence and admiration of Mike Patton is obvious and provides an edge that is maintained through repeated listens. The selections cover a broad range of styles and are held together by a recurring theme, with the standout track being "Chain Sling." Remedy Lane captures Pain of Salvation at its creative peak and proved that the progressive metal genre was still alive and well in 2002.
