Counter-Strike 1.6 Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 09, 2002 5:36am PDTThere is a Counter-Strike Q&A on ComputerGames.ro, which has Valve's Erik Johnson answer some questions about the ever popular Half-Life modification. One of the things mentioned, is that CS 1.6 will actually have new weapons and a riot shield (previously announced for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero).
Computer Games Romania: Do you plan to include new weapons, maps, models or options or will you just fix the bugs from the current version? Erik Johnson: We'll be adding the Famas, Galil, and Riot Shield to Counter-Strike 1.6. There are a number of smaller changes, but these three will have the greatest effect on gameplay. There is no release date mentioned for the new Counter-Strike but you can count on it crashing the Internet again. Yeah... everything was better back in the good ol' days. We didn't have 300 ms modem pings, shitty video cards, no in-game browsers, compatibility-breaking bugfixes every week, and all the other garbage we have to put up with these days. God, I wish I could go back!
Seriously, you should look around some more. I know there are servers out there that run ridiculous maps with ridiculous people just looking to have fun. And if there's not enough free-wheeling anarchy for you, make some of your own!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... woo hoo hoo, that's funny.

unless I'm badly miss-bacon.
But it seems like 80-90% of people use Rifles anyway, so I'm not sure how effective it will be. I guess the idea is to try and cover your teammates with the shield, but the problem is you're all the same height... so if my friend is standing in the way, it's nice and all that I've got a shield to block incoming fire, but it also makes it harder for me to hit the enemy cuz I've got a teammate in the way.
But it might be good for breaking choke-points on certain maps... like the bridge in Aztec, and the Door in Aztec.
It should be interesting to see how it effects gameplay.

[Erik Johnson] The main addition to the next TFC release is the addition of the engineer's teleporter. People from the early days of Team Fortress probably remember this.

Why do people still play it? it was a GREAT mod, raised the bar for weapon models and sounds BUT I cant stand to look at the ancient engine anymore.
Could be because I'm mapping for UT2003 now :)

They need to add an option, somewhere, to remove the bullshit randomness from the game.
I wonder how many more would play it if not for the "omg headshot bs". Randomness combined with the client side prediction and zeroping tech makes for some really wierd occurances that are incredibly frustrating.

Q: Are you going to fix the hostage movement so they dont get stuck all the time?
A: No.
Q: How about correctly separating pistol ammo from sub machinegun ammo?
A: umm... no.
Q: What about how smoke doesnt get sent to the client if thier in a different visibility portal, gonna fix that?
A: wha..? no.
