First Post!

by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 08, 2002 5:00am PDT

An early update today as I had to rise early to go to the dentist. Just a regular checkup, nothing really important. The dentist recently moved locations, which means I'll have to get out of the house, cross the street, and I'm there. A long trip it sure isn't. I'm actually still dabbling with Raven's Elite Force, trying to find additional levels to play in holomatch mode. Seems most of the good sites are gone already, which is too bad. If anyone knows of any cool spaceship levels let me know. Movie: I never did one thing right in my life, you know that? Not one. That takes skill.

  • The McDonald's corporation's dislike of XML-related technologies is well documented. Daily, newspaper headlines scream "Well-Known XML Developer Assaulted By Big 'N Tasty Burger", "McNuggets Hold Anti-XPath Rally", "Hamburgler Terrorizes Silicon Valley XML Solution Provider". Hatred between the two sides grows daily. The source of this strife is a mystery, and will probably stay that way for a long time to come. What would a multi-billion dollar fast-food corporation have to gain by tarnishing the reputation of a young, upstart data handling solution? This is the question that burns in the mind of insiders and the public alike.

On the outside, peace seems a possibility. If both sides would lay down their arms and meet in true good faith, their differences could be understood, and compromise could be reached. These are the notions of ignorant fools. Fools who do not understand. Fools that have never dealt with the consequences this war brings. Until you've been on the inside, you will never know the truth. The truth that these opponents will never surrender, never back down, never compromise. The goal of each is total destruction of the other. No compromise will do. No truce will be called.

I was one of those ignorant outsiders. That is, until I made the mistake of leaving my half-full SuperSize Coke alone in the same room as my XSLT For Dummies book for the weekend. It would never happen to me. Not in my town. Not on my desk.

    Now I understand.

  • Gang-Wars:
-Acid is hot right now. I'm going to dump it soon, though.
-Don't touch heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, or marijuana until the prices are at least half of what they are now. All of those drugs are going to see freefall price drops soon.
-PCP and Crack are on their way up. If you invest in a lot of units now, you'll see huge returns tomorrow morning or earlier.

I had invested in almost 5,000 units of ecstasy early last night as it was losing value. Before I went to bed it was down almost 8%. When I woke up it was up more than 10% :) Cut my regional rank in half and doubled my net worth.
