Developers on Future Tech
by Steve Gibson, Oct 21, 1999 2:01pm PDTSharkyExtreme has a new article talking about next-generation technology and hardware with quotes from a few of the game developers around the world and what they feel will be important. They cover T&L, T-Buffer, AGP, PCP, DNS, and all that good stuff. In addition to that, Jake Simpson over at Raven Software has a .plan update of his own talking about T&L etc that is absolutely massive.

The fact is that the T&L capabilities have to be coded into the game for it to work. This is the biggest lie started by Nvidia... get a GeForce and you don\'t need to upgrade your cpu because the T&L will handle it all. Bullshit! If this was true a GeForce would get the exact same framerates on a P2-233MHz versus an Athlon1GHz, and we know this isn\'t the case.
The t-buffer motion-blur also has to be coded into the game, but, and as PeeWee says...this is a big but, the Anti-Aliasing part of the V4 does NOT need to be coded and can be used right away. On every game you have now!
This stuff isn\'t rocket science, guys. Don\'t let the hype fool you.
will most certainly have much higher fill rates. I just got a TnT2 ultra
for cripes sakes.
And my $ will be much better spent upgrading to one of those fancy new
1000+ mhz cpu\'s coming out 1st quarter of next year. :) Gonna be sweet
running Q3 and UT at 1600x1200. Awwwwh yeah, its all gonna be good.
Thanks!
