Tac Ops Patch
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 03, 2002 7:02am PDTThe Infogrames Support page has a new patch for Tactical Ops: Assault On Terror, the retail version of the Unreal Tournament mod. It has a pretty big list of changes and fixes. It's mirrored on FileShack.

Biggest beef is that the shotguns are pathetic.
I enjoyed playing this when it was just a UT mod. As a mod, it was pretty good. As a retail product, it wasn't. The guys running this didn't have good Quality Assurance and at one time, the servers were running a *ton* of different releases and it really fragmented up the community.
Has this gotten any better? I'm totally hooked on SoF2 and wouldn't even consider leaving that. The "buy" part of Counter-Strike and Tactical Ops is such a killer punishment for dying. It's bad enough you died, you also lose all your gear and have to repurchase it. And god help you if you lose the first round of a map switch. Your team is just about guaranteed to lose the next 2-3 rounds on the inequities of gear available to the other side.
None of that "buy" crapola in SoF2. You outfit yourself at the beginning and it becomes a game of *skill* and not a game of *inequity*.
