About Those UT2003 Manuals

If some of you were wondering why the Unreal Tournament 2003 manual has orange text on a white background, it's an error. According to online producer Kyle Peschel, someone "was smoking crack" as the text was supposed to be black. Kyle promises to upload a PDF version of the manual, and will try to find out if people will be able to send back their manual to get a correctly printed one. Though he adds "(Personally I would think that you are now l33t for having an Orange one, and years from now it will be worth more. But that's just wishful thinking) ". Someone slacking on ISO 9000 levels? :)
um... first batch of manuals. Designer takes a look, verifies, puts it all back , checks a box, and maybe checks every 50,000 after that to make sure it's consistent?

I personally think the whole damn packaging for UT2k3 is just ASS. Paper cd sleeves, cd on the manual (like we dont all lose those damn things) and orange text (nice to see that was a screw up).

I like the game, but everything appears "rushed" to me.

I don't see why they bother with cd keys in the first place... it doesn't stop piracy for one second. As for manuals, I don't care for them either... I mean if I have to take a really bad crap or something I'll grab the manual to look through while I'm doin my business and maybe learn something new, but they could have just as easily put it in a .txt or .pdf file on the cd. Or have a "training" level in the game that you can take kinda like in CS where they teach you the moves and crap.

My two cents...

When I got my copy it didn't EVEN have a manual.

I had to call EBX to ask where the cdkey was stored, when they told me it was on the manual.

I don't understand why so many people are bitching about the packaging? I paid 43 bones and some change after tax for this game. That is a far cry from the 60 bones I paid for NWN with the same packaging. Granted I got a larger manual, but I gringed at that price. UT2k3 was cheap to me, so I bought 2 copies. If they can skimp on boxes and manuals that I'm going to loose anyways to sell the game cheaper I'm all for it..

I threw away my manual on the day I bought it. But my manual wasn't orange, just plain black text on white/gray background. I made a label for the key and put it on the CD sleeve. I don't keep manuals.

I got the orange text one...I didn't even really notice it until I read about it (well I noticed it being orange text and orange and white pictures (orange-scale?) rather than b&w. Now I feel all cool and stuff!

I just find it amazing that a game title such as this one that is guarenteed to be scrutenized from top to bottom, packaged something so inferior. I laughed for a few minutes when the sleeves game sliding out. I can't believe the cost is that much more for a plastic case. Thats being extremely cheap.

I have one other question. When do you think developers will start distributing games on a DVD format disc that can hold several CDs on one disc??? It can then come in a case like XBOX, PS2, etc... It will have a nice size manual holder and be alot easier to take care of instead of swapping discs/losing discs/etc.... I think its time. Most computers come standard with a DVD player anyhow now.... I hope it happens soon.
