Sunday Night ShackReviews

by jason bergman, Sep 29, 2002 5:56pm PDT

After a week off (due to my fiancee's bridal shower) I'm back with another roundup of new games in the ShackReviews database. Some big name titles have come out in the past week, so these are all new releases. As usual, if there's a game you want to review but don't see in the database, check first and then submit it!

As some of you may have noticed, I published my Mario Sunshine review this afternoon. I'm still behind on my reviews due to the ever looming wedding plans, but I'm going to try and get caught up while these games are still fresh in my mind (if I wait too long, I won't be able to write as effective a review).

  • anyone else getting a bit fed up w/ nintendo's ability to deliver great games for gamecube? this is the only reason i bought gamecube in the first place... yet a lot of their top rated gamecube games are multiconsole or just copies of n64 games more or less(sms, smash bros, star wars, etc are copies). if zelda doesn't contain some improvement(other than gfx) and innovation i think i'm really going to lose faith in nintendo. i'd love to see improved versions of some of their classics, snes ogre battle(i like this one much more than tactics ogre. the n64 version was short of the original but very good), and mario cart(n64 version sucked compared to the original) but i don't think they have the ability to make them how i'd like.

  • I agree with most of your points, Jason, in regards to Mario Sunshine. I couldn't shake the feeling Sunshine was rushed either. From the wierd Shadow Mario being Koopa's son (?!?) to the horrid voice overs of that character and others.

By the way, there was only one level that I know of that used the different colored Yoshi concept. It required you to spray durien juice on a monster to turn him into a block that took you to a platform that allowed you to juice away a barrier and get a shine. That's really the only time though. Why bother including him for such little use? Sure you can get some blue coins with him by using his tongue, but that's pretty much it.

That 3rd nozzle was useless, agreed.

I had fun, it was a fun game, but it wasn't an instant classic like other Mario games tend to be.
