UT2K3 On Some Shelves

First off, anybody who says that Epic is just getting up to Q3 levels so far as graphics go is COMPLETELY insane and blinded by fanboyism. Its a great looking game.

First impressions are important though, and the fact that the game CDs didn't come in jewel cases just reeks of ghetto.

One things for sure the game is damn gorgeous. Those are some of the most impressive levels I've ever seen (based on the screenshots from the prounreal forum that somebody linked too.) The eye candy part of me might even buy the game just for that. But I had a lot of fun with the demo's gameplay too. It's been a couple years since I played any Deathmatch/CTF stuff because I was a bit burnt out around the Quake3 days. I guess I missed that style of gaming more than I knew.

If anyone can confirm if it's in Wal-Marts and what city, please post it in this thread.

i predicted this months ago. ut2003 is a cpu intensive game. maybe some of you remember me saying this. well welcome to today. theres a "benchmark" mode in the game where it shows the speeds. and has two main modes, botmatch and flyby. botmatch much more closely resembles a real game. theres players fighting, sounds, everything youd normally see. now, the benchmarks for botmatch are always the same numbers for the lower res, and sometimes up to higher res depending on videocard. its totally bottlenecked by your cpu. on a medium speed computer like a 1.5ghz, your botmatch score will be about 40fps, thats average speed. and ingame your fps will be dropping to 20fps easily in fights. and theres nothing you can do to help this other than get a new cpu. lowering the res and eyecandy doesnt help. a new videocard doesnt help. now this is kinda lame really, cause they added a flyby part to the benchmark. i guess they saw how their game is purely a cpu benchmark and decided to add in an artificial mode with no gameplay or sounds or physics or anything else that really takes place and have it purely show flying around a level. this benchmark will be different in each res, and would be somewhat kind of a good benchmark until we hear that it doesnt run the same options on everyones system. it has NO bearing on how your actual gameplay will be, this is why im kinda pissed off its even in there. its fake. its not the game. and now i see all sorts of people going out to buy all of these new fastest videocards out there to make the game faster. sure you can do that if you already have a fast cpu (2+ghz). but for fucks sake, if you have a midrange cpu, get a cpu upgrade before a new videocard if you want to actually PLAY the game, and not play flyby videos of the levels. id WAY rather have a 2ghz system with a geforce *1*, than a 1.5ghz system with a gf4, it would play much smoother. yeah, im done.

linux client is cool. price is cool. devs seem cool. game boring.

For everyone who ever flamed Epic, you have to say this.

First, fucking kudos to them for releasing this game at an affordable gaming price. When shitty games are costing an arm and a leg, it's nice to see one buck the trend.

Second, fucking kudos to them for no silly shit like a "street date" and so on. Just ship it out and go buy it.

Thirdly, fucking kudos to them for Linux support out of the box, they didn't have to do it and the market size doesn't justify it, but hell, thanks for giving the users a choice to walk away from the big throbbing cock of uncle Bill.

Fourth, fucking kudos to you dudes for having good natures, for enduring the years of moron fanboyz and the stupid things they have to say about you simply because you are not id. That you took it all in stride, didn't get involved in any stupid pissing matches with dumbasses on the internet, didn't get prideful and spiteful like some other high profile individuals on other development teams, and just sat back and coded up another game that people love.

I'm saying all this objectively, because UT2k3 is not a game for me, I'm not sure that I will buy it, though I loved UT.

I just have a shitload of respect for what you guys have done over the years, and most importantly, HOW you've done it.

Bargain bin for this one ~$20, but I think I will pick up U2, for the single play, depending on the reviews a week after it's release.

ok I'm casually watching Gundam X while I play BF1942, and at one point they get a Lock on for their cannon and it shows the cannon view aiming screen saying:

Even if the game itself isn't perfect (I like it, but I have my gripes judging from the demo), there will be mods.

This game looks to be an excellent mod platform. The feature set is really really great for mod makers, and the engine is top-notch. As a mod platform I'd really like to see this one take off because I see it as the best for modding right now (sadly, a mod platform is as dependent on the audience it gets as it is its modding merit). I'd like to make a couple mods for it after this semester is over.

as said before, I code for a mod group making a mod for ut2k3 named roadkill. it will feature stuff like VEHICLES, like they didnt add in the game in the first place. The karma and actor is there, so its just basic coding I guess.
