New Tenebrae
by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 25, 2002 1:01pm PDTA new version of the Quake 1 source modification Tenebrae (has real time lighting and bumpmapping among other features) has been released, you can get it from FileShack. The new version should be faster and support ATI's Radeon cards along with other changes.

That is why everything in Tebebrae looks shiney and blocky. Checkout screenshots of the same levels with new updated high resolution colors that have custom made bump maps and gloss maps. With custom gloss maps, everything doesn't look shiney.

My duron 900 is just b0rk b0rk b0rk at 640x480 though.. I'm going to start working on high poly weapon models and nice weapon textures, then character and monster models/textures. Someone else has gotta animate them though =\

I get 35.2fps at 800x600x32
1.4 AthlonXP, GF4-4200, 800x600, 40.52 dets.
I get 39fps with sh_playershadow "0"
50fps at 640x480x32
If I could disable the smoke/fog/steam and/or the enemy shadows, I could get 60+!
Anyone know the commands?

Also make sure to have the high rez texture pack.
Both the testmap and the texture pack are incomplete right now, but you can only truely appreciate the engine with these.
This engine needs physics based model animations, like the stuff in Doom 3. However, it is getting closer and closer to a Doom 3 killer with each release!

It says "press D on the credits screen". When you press escape and choose quit, instead of pressing y, press d. Or just type map bathroom in the console to see it.

(binds the flashlight to "F", set sh_fps to "0" to turn off fps display)
Create a shortcut to "tenebrae.exe" and make the target say:
C:\Gamedir\Quakedir\tenebrae.exe -width 800 -height 600 -bpp 32 -noipx -nocdaudio -nojoy
Then launch from the shortcut. Probably everyone already knows all this, but there it is for what it's worth. Pretty much everything maxxed so looks really good but might run slow on some systems.

Any way to set the mouse so your view changes when you move it rather than making you move forward, sideways, etc.
One of the things that makes it hard for me to play q1 anymore is the fact that it moves so differently than Halflife, Q2, Q3, and so on....
