As those of you who have the Games We're Playing box on your ShackBar may have noticed, I've finished up Super Mario Sunshine and have moved on to Kingdom Hearts. SMS was fun, and better than most games, but it had a surprising number of problems for a Mario game. I'll elaborate on this in my eventual review of the game, but I did have a lot of issues with the game. For one thing, I liked the fact that they were trying to do something different from the usual "Koopa kidnaps Princess" storyline...but then they did it anyway. And the plot they did stick on there made no sense whatsoever. I'm not asking for in-depth storytelling here, but why exactly was a water Mario running around? I have absolutely no idea. The whole game felt rushed to me, and for a Nintendo game, really unpolished. But don't get me wrong, I liked it. But on my Scale o' Mario, this ranks below Mario 64, Super Mario World and Super Mario 3. But still above Super Mario 2, of course.

GameCube PS2 Xbox I hope it's better than that Timeline game Variety is reporting that Michael Crichton, the best-selling author of great books like The Andromeda Strain, Sphere and Jurassic Park (not to mention ER and the super-goofy WestWorld), is working on an original game with none other than Sega. This will be an original project, although it may move on to other media afterwards. No platforms have been announced, and it's still a ways off, so don't expect to hear much for a while.
Xbox Xbox News In an attempt to "increase security and reduce overall costs," Microsoft has slightly modified the insides of the Xbox. Among other things, it eliminates the fan over the GPU, which doesn't sound like a particularly good idea to me. On a related note, some analysts have said that Microsoft needs a really good holiday, or else it'll be "a few years" before it pulls a profit, which could seriously impact its chances for longevity at the company.
